Marcus Dodson Obituary

DODSON , Marcus Denton
A World War II veteran and retired and honored electrical engineer, died Jan. 9, 2007. Born March 26, 1924 in Science Hill, Kentucky, Marcus served in the U.S. Marines and participated in major World War II battles, including fighting in the Marshall Islands, Guam and Okinawa. After the war, he received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from UC Berkeley, and later earned a M.S. degree from USC.
Marcus helped construct several power plants for the L.A. Department of Water and Power, most notably the Pacific Intertie Station in Sylmar. After the 1971 Sylmar earthquake, Marcus served as Project Engineer for the plant's $22 million reconstruction.
Marcus was National President of Eta Kappa Nu (HKN), the electrical and computer engineering honor society, 1977- 78. He was awarded numerous honors including being named an HKN Eminent Member, the organization's highest award.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Marcus is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ada; four children, Marc Dodson, Rocco Dodson, Marcida Dodson and Rita Dodson Cossette; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19 at St. Irenaeus Church in Cypress, followed by interment at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Disabled American Veterans.
