I was a neighbor of Mr. Barraza for over 20 years. I always called him that to honor him.. Mr. Barraza "Roque" was a good neighbor and like a father to me.. I feel fortunate I told him one of the last days I saw him. Roque was a Veteran. He mentioned this several times to me and was proud of his service. Mr. Barraza over the years helped me with whatever I needed.. Like getting the bird out of my home when it flew in my house one day or fixing my washing machine when water overflowed from it.. Mr. Barraza was a good man and could name all his children and grandchildren. March of this year, I spent a little more time with him when I was home on spring break from the University where I work. Roque and I took some drives in my car. One was to see his son's trailer which had caught on fire. He knew exactly how to get there. When my car stalled, he gave suggestions on how to get it started. It stalled within a block of my home. Since he had his walker he walked back to his home by himself, then later returned (with walker) to make sure I was ok when the mechanics arrived. We enjoyed a few meals together that week when I took him to lunch. I made sure Roque knew the channel to turn on the TV to watch the Aggies during the NCAA playoffs. Afterwards he said he found it on the channel just fine and had watched it. How I wish I had taken him for a few more drives in my car or could wave to him as I pass by his home. I will miss him and his smile deeply.

Edward (lalo) Montano and son Arthur give their condolence. Roque helped Lalo build his house in 1952-3 and addition in 1966 they were stationed in Missouri state for 1-2 years around the Korean war. Eileen Lalos wife knew him too but passed away in 2006. Arthur would help Roque when he could and last heard or saw him in late March.

Rock was a good man with a good heart. He was a hard worker, and he cared about everyone he knew. He will be missed, and there will not be another person like him.
