Penn Valley CA - In January of 2025, my beautiful daughter Jessica McEwan died at her home in Penn Valley California, in the foothills of the High Sierras. Jess was a vibrant, enchanting artist, a blacksmith who grew flowers and fiddlehead ferns from hammered iron. She seemed a part of the forests surrounding her home, almost kin to its wild inhabitants, both fierce and timid. Jess walked with a luminescent light, like the colonies of tiny mushrooms illuminating after dark from gathered bright day sunshine. She had lifelong friends who will mourn her always, for that glow of kindness she emitted, like a star, but close.

Jess grew up in Harrisville, with horses, dogs and cats, ponies and chickens, vibrantly colored floral and edible gardens. She had the love of her parents, brother and friends. She was an expert skier, an elegant, accomplished horsewoman and longtime member of Monadnock Pony Club. After attending Boston's Museum School, San Francisco California called, and later, a residency in the Upper Ninth Ward of soulful New Orleans. Jess joyfully traveled the world whenever opportunities presented. With it's seductive promised dreams, California ultimately drew her back.

To say she will be missed by her mother, Lynne Parzini of Hancock, her father, James A. McEwan of Harrisville, her loving brother Jim McEwan, his wife Josie and their son Matthew, of Melbourne, FL, is distant from expressing how deeply we will miss her.

Mary Oliver inquired "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life"? Jessica embraced her own, and lived it beautifully.
