Colleen Reeder-Trott Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 8, 2011.
REEDER-TROTT, Colleen Allison It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Colleen Allison Reeder-Trott on April 5, 2011. Colleen is survived by her loving husband and best friend Phillip J. Trott; children: Kayla Trott and Jacob Trott; parents: Barrie and Josephine Reeder, Olga Sterling, grandparent, Evelyn Reeder, brothers: Darren, and his wife Rosie and kids Katie and Joshua, Grant, his son Damen and wife Claire and a close-circle of friends who are left to cherish her memory. Colleen was born October 1, 1973 in Edmonton, Alberta. From a young age, she was blessed with a sense of adventure and a love for learning that would take her on many international adventures; it was her love for learning and connecting with children that led her to pursue a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta. Teaching was more than a passion for Colleen - it was her true calling. More than being a great teacher, Colleen was one of the most genuine and loyal friends you could ever find. She cared deeply about the happiness of those around her and never missed a special moment in others" lives. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 9 at 12:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Pastor Forrest Stroup officiating. Those wishing to honour Colleen"s memory are asked to make a contribution to one of the following charities in lieu of sending flowers - Literacy Alberta or The Rock - Lutheran Inner City Society.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

As a former grade 6 student of Ms Reeder, I will remember her as the fun loving yet excellent teacher. To this day she has been the only teacher that has ever truthfully made learning fun for 12 year olds. She will be remembered by all of her grade 6's as the extrodinary women she truly was.

I too had the great privilege of attending Ms.Reeder's grade 6 class, she was the best teacher a student could ask for, she brought humour and positive attitudes to the class every single day. With Ms.Reeder as a teacher school was an exciting activity to look forward to. She was a remarkable individual that will forever hold a special place in my heart. She will be missed by many.

As I look into the night time sky a bright star is gone from our view. But the light it cast for many years lives on in all who were fortunate enough to have her shine on us for a brief time in our lives.

"I had so many rainbows in my clouds. I've had a lot of clouds but I have had so many rainbows.
And the thing to do, it seems to me, is to prepare yourself so that you can be a rainbow in somebody elses cloud. Somebody that may not look like you, or call God the same name you call God, or may not call God at all. They may not eat the same dishes prepared the way you do. They may not dance your dances or speak your language but be a blessing to somebody. Be the rainbow in their cloud." Maya Angelou
Colleen would love this quote!
Words were important to Colleen. She was always writing thoughts and feelings down about her life's journey. I have no words to express now how I feel facing the loss of my dear friend. May you, Colleen, find your rainbow in the clouds.

I was also apart of her grade 6 class and I will always remember her as cheerful and full of life. She will always be one of my favourite teachers and I have nothing but good memories of her. My condolences to her family and everyone that knew her, it is indeed a great loss.

My thoughts are with the family and it is hard to believe that such a vibrant and humourous person has passed on. Although having only worked with her for a short two years, I remember a dedicated guiding light who cared for and believed in her students. Her quick wit or smile brightened our meetings and lunchtimes but more importantly her insights and comments made you think differently and retrospectively. I, as many, are lucky to have met her and been touched by her presence. May we all honour her by trying to spread her love of the world and teaching, each in our own way.

Colleen, words can not describe the sadness I feel from your loss. I know you are now an angel gazing down with your beautiful, blue eyes and waking others with your infectious laugh. I will always treasure our friendship, our 5 1/2 years being roommates and the last 20 years of making memories. I can't wait to talk to you again so please visit me in my dreams often and I promise not to interrupt.
My condolences to the Reeder and Trott family. May you find comfort in each other. You are in my prayers.

I want to wish the Trott and Reeder family my most heartfelt sympathies at this difficult time. I had the honor of teaching with Colleen at Patricia Heights at the beginning of her career as a teacher. Being new to the profession in our early 20's we had a common passion and youthful energy for teaching. I sit here with my wife and 2 children thinking about life and how precious it really is. I want to say something to give you hope and love when I know you are grieving deeply. Know that your precious Colleen touched many people in her life. I am witness to the good she did. I will move forward in my life with Colleen reminding me of how to live simply, and compassionately. She is an angel, and will live forever in the hearts of those who were lucky to have known her.

I was so surprised to hear of her passing. I was blessed with the opportunity to be in the last sixth grade class she ever taught at GPN. She always encouraged me to do things that I was afraid of, and made my year a great one. I’ll be forever grateful of the time I had to get to know her, and she’ll always be remembered as one of my favourite teachers. Love to the family, keep holding on.

She was so caring and kind and I have many fond memories of her classes. My prayers are with your family.

Danielle and I were so very shocked and upset to hear of Colleen's passing. We feel so very blessed to have known Colleen. That she opened her home to us as travelers and for her family to welcome us into their home to share their Easter celebrations meant a great deal to us when we were so far from our own home. We have many fond memories of our time with Colleen and will miss her greatly. We remember especially nights out in Canmore and Edmonton and skiing at Sunshine with Colleen & Renee. Our deepest sympathies to her friends and family.

I had the honour of working with Colleen as a teacher and the joy of being her friend. We use to joke that she was the little sister I always wanted. We ran our first half-marathon together in Kelowna. 2 hours, 29 minutes and 52 seconds and we didn't stop talking the entire time. We crossed the finish line holding hands. How I wish I could hold her hand again. I will hold these and many other memories of Colleen close to my heart. I hope everyone else who loved her will do the same. My heart and thoughts are with Colleen's family and close friends.
