Debbie Willis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 23, 2025.
On August 22, 2025, at the age of 71, Deborah "Debbie" Ann Willis of Cape Coral, Florida, went home to be with the Lord, her life defined by love, guided by faith, and remembered for a spirit of service to others.

Debbie was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1953 to the late Nancy Lorrain Lahman and Richard Thomas Kent. She was raised in Glen Ellyn, IL and graduated from Glenbard West High School. Debbie later pursued her calling to care for others, earning her Associate's Degree in Nursing from Edison Community College in Fort Myers, Florida. She became a registered nurse in 1987 and spent the next four decades touching countless lives with her compassion and skill.

Her dedication to love, faith, and service extended beyond her profession. As a Christian, she volunteered in the church, playing her flute in the orchestra and singing in the choir during worship services. As part of the core group that founded New Hope Church in Cape Coral, FL, Debbie left a lasting impact on her community of faith.

Debbie lived a vibrant and active life, enjoying tennis, swimming, gardening, and scuba diving. She adored long walks with her dog, Chloe, though family often teased that Chloe was the one walking Debbie. Their daily adventures brought her endless joy, and Debbie's playful spirit was evident in the way she cherished even the simplest of moments. Debbie's joy and energy were contagious, and she is remembered for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for others.

Debbie is survived by her five children: Joshua Willis, Bobby Weigt, Kari Reese, Ryan Weigt, and Shawn Weigt. She is also survived by her three beloved siblings: Lynn Stasch, Robin Hanson, and Rick Kent, as well as many cherished family members and friends.

Debbie will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life for Debbie will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at New Hope Church, 431 Nicholas Parkway, Cape Coral, FL 33990. In honor of Debbie's memory, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, supporting vital research in the fight against dementia.
