Jonny Joyner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 6, 2024.
Jon Joyner, 58, resident of Dekalb, IL, passed away abruptly and unexpectedly March 29, 2024, during a hospital stay from complications of a 2 year long, hard fought battle with a rare lymphoma cancer. He was born a fighter, on April 8, 1965, in Chicago, IL, 2 months premature. He remained a fighter his whole life, up to the very last minute of his life. He spent his days growing up in Glen Ellyn Countyside, and Glendale Heights, IL, where he spent much of his time riding bikes with his friends, dreaming of being a firefighter, and singing Elvis songs in talent shows and around the halls of his school.

Jonny, as he was known to his loved ones, will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him, and love him. The world is no longer as bright, funny or full of love without him in it.

Jonny had a magnetic personality, incredible sense of humor, and lit up every room he walked into. He was often asked to sing as he had an incredible singing voice.
Jonny was a lifelong Elvis fan, and music lover. He loved to cook, and bbq, and was known by his friends and family for his wings.
He enjoyed watching football from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to the Chicago Bears, and his beloved Denver Broncos and John Elway.

Above all else, Jonny's love and favorite place to be was with his family. He was an amazing husband, and father who always put others before himself. He adored his wife, his kids, and grandkids. He loved deeply, and wholeheartedly, always wanting the best for his family. His biggest fear was leaving his children at such young ages. His wife and all of his kids were the absolute center of his world, and he was so proud of each and every one of them. There was no better place to him than spending time with them around a bon fire, a grill or picnic, at a park or forest preserve, or in the backyard with music playing, being surrounded by nature.

Jon is survived by a large, loving, blended family including the love of his life, wife Joni Joyner, his children Erik (Kelly Maloney) Young, Erika Young Diaz, Elysa Joyner, Brittney Joyner, Joshua Joyner, Logan Joyner, Shelby Joyner, and Luke Joyner, bonus children Ronnie Banta, and Christopher Banta.
He was a grandfather to 13 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his mother Virginia Fallon, father Jerry Joyner, sisters Lurana (Gene) Gutierrez, Apryl (Ray) Vogrig, Judy Joyner, Jenny Joyner and brothers Vincent Fallon and Jerry Joyner. Jon had numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Jon was preceded in death by his brother William (Billy) Fallon, and Stepfather William Fallon, and dearly loved grandparents, aunt, and uncles.

Jonny's educational journey included attending Queen Bee Elementary and Glenbard North High School, class of 1983.

In accordance with his wishes, Jonny will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life is scheduled for July 13th, 2024 in Wheaton, Il.

Contributions to the Northwestern Memorial Living Well Cancer Resource Center in memory of Jonny are greatly appreciated. https://nmgive.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donate.event&eventID=617

I will remember Jon for his magnetic personality, sense of humor, smiles and laughter. His beautiful singing voice. His love being outdoors, surrounded by nature. Opening his home to us, his in-laws, for overnight visits including morning coffee time, and cooking and barbequing for us. His last talk with his father-in-law about the past and future. And his deep love for family! He's gone too soon; forever missed and always remembered. May you soar to eternal heights.

The thing that I remember about Jon is his sense of humor and his love for his family. I remember driving down the road after Glendale Heights fest and I don´t remember why but , the guy in the next lane said or did something to irritate Jon. The next thing we know he´s leaning out the passenger side window and yelling GROW SOME HAIR we laughed so hard. It still makes me smile when I think about it. To his family and his friends we feel your pain and loss. He´s partying with my father in law Howie I´m sure.

Jon loved to tease me by arguing about silly things. I can still hear him saying "Listen Woman " . One of the things that I remember most was Jon hanging out the passenger window while we were driving and yelling to some guy in the other lane GROW SOME HAIR it still makes me laugh I will miss his sense of humor. He´s with Howie now and I´m sure they´re having a great time. My sincere condolences to all of the Joyner family and their friends.

Jonny and I were the biggest Elvis fans, and he took it to another level, in high school we were connected by our love for the King and most might think we were in competition.... Mutual respect. I wouldn´t say I knew him well, but I always remembered him with a smile.

Rest easy brother....

Before he was old enough to walk, he could sing. He always sang, I'll be there. When any of the family walked in the door he would say very loudly, Howdy. When I was potty training his sister Lurana, he would hug her and say Do have to go potty nana?He was a born entertainer and very good at it, even sang at his friends wedding. He will be missed by so many people.
