Lillie Wheeler Obituary
Lillie was born on August 2, 1952, in Gary, Indiana. She was the cherished daughter of the late Joe Nathan Wheeler and Mae Ola Wheeler.
Lillie received her education at Roosevelt High School and later attended Ivy Tech, where she earned her associate's degree. She also obtained her cosmetology license.
At an early age, Lillie committed her life to Christ and joined Christian Valley Baptist Church in Gary, Indiana, under the leadership of Pastor Taylor, marking the beginning of her spiritual journey.
After retiring from Smith Medical, Lillie enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Nathan Wheeler; her mother, Mae Ola Wheeler; and her sister, Stella Wheeler-West.
Lillie is survived by her beloved children LaTonya Meadows, Latricia Wheeler, LaVeda (Marc) Nyarko, and Elvis Coleman; siblings, Joyce Wheeler-Manson, Lester (Terri) Wheeler, Marilyn Wheeler, Betty Wheeler, and Cheryl Wheeler; grandchildren, Whitney Freeman, Jermane Webb, De'Aushania Wheeler, Aniquiox Johnson , Latrell Kellom, Todd Gardfrey, Alana Gipson, and Alyssa Gipson, along with an uncle and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation, Friday, August 22, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. � 12:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. All services at the Guy & Allen Chapel 2959 West 11th Avenue Gary, Indiana. Pastor Gregory Rowland officiating.

Sending condolences to Ruthie Wheeler's entire family, especially my niece LaTonya. I'm so sorry for your loss. Ruthie was a very nice and sweet person, not to mention she was beautiful. I have many memories of her including the times she "fixed" my hair. My funniest memories though are about when my brother Greg would let me roll with him, and he would take me to her so I could get in her hair. She always laughed at me about saying to her, "Hey Ruthie, can I get in your hair" (like my body into her head of hair). She wore and rocked that fro!
I'm so sorry for your loss and will keep you all in prayer. May Ruthie rest peacefully in God's arms.
