Manuel SPIVAK Obituary
Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Professor at the University of Toronto. At Mount Sinai Hospital on Friday, December 23, 2016. Surrounded by his loving family, Manny passed away peacefully from complications related to Dementia. Beloved son of the late Israel and Eva Spivak and devoted son-in-law of the late Fred and Min Biback. Deeply treasured Husband of Phyllis (Biback) for 60 years. Cherished and loving Father of Sari and Howard Weinstein, and Jonathan Spivak. Adored and loved Pa to Zachary, and Joshua Weinstein. Brother and Brother-in-law of Anna and the late Dr. Samuel Spivak, Ida and the late Philip Abrams, the late Dr. Sheldon and Reva Biback (Seattle, Washington), and Dr. Harry Colman and Beverley Colman- Lokash. Admired and respected Uncle to Dr. Laurence and Lynne Colman, Caryn Colman, Deborah Colman, Elizabeth Abrams and Mark Wainberg, Dr. Stephen Abrams and Rosette Rutman, Allan and Elizabeth Spivak, Howard Spivak and Judy Zorfas, Lorne Spivak and Esther Stenzler, Cheryl and Joe Piha (Seattle, Washington), Greta and Thomas Ballard (Portland, Oregon), and Deborah and Bruce Williams (Snohomish County, Washington). Fondly remembered by Aunts Ricky Hennick, and Dorothy Biback, cousins, friends and dedicated office nurse Lita Pleau. Special thanks to his devoted caregivers, Liza, Marilyn, Aileen, Merlyn, and Roger. Manny had a distinguished career and was recognized as a gifted microsurgeon by his colleagues, a compassionate healer to his patients, and a mentor to many. With deep appreciation to the Palliative Team and the 12th floor staff at Mount Sinai Hospital who provided compassionate care. At Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue West (3 lights west of Duffferin) for service on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Interment in the Holy Blossom section of Pardes Shalom Cemetery. Shiva 619 Avenue Road, in the Lonsdale Room from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to The Dr. Manuel Spivak Fund c/o Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, 416-586-8203 or www.tlcpc.org

I am so sorry, I have just seen that this remarkable man passed away a while ago.
Many years ago, we had almost given up hope of having children until we met Dr Spivack.
In three short years we had a boy and then a girl, now 35 and 33.
So much empathy, compassion, skill, there are not enough wonderful adjectives.

Heartfelt condolences to the family. I was recently and briefly reunited with this wonderful man who brought me into this world 47 years ago. Such a delight to discover this together by chance. I was a patient of Dr Spivak's for over 40 years. I had a tremendous respect for him and was quite sad when he retired. I received a card from him after that. I will remember his professionalism and great knowledge and his warmth in his profession as a Doctor and person. Rest in peace, Manny. My heart goes out to you, Phyllis. Sincerely, Arlene Gillis
