Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 18 to Nov. 21, 2021.
Paavo Esa Antero Patokoski
July 12, 1941 - Nov. 6, 2021
Paavo Esa Antero Patokoski passed away due to complications from open heart surgery Nov. 6, 2021.
Paavo was born in Raahe, Finland July 12, 1941. He lived in Finland until his family immigrated to the United States. After graduating from Jefferson High School in 1959, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in England. He returned home and attended Portland State University, where he met and married his wife of 57 years, Sara Jean "Jeannie" in 1965. Paavo worked at ESCO Corporation for nearly 35 years. He coached his daughters' basketball and softball teams and attended all of their track and cross country meets. Esa also coached Babe Ruth baseball for many years. In 1997, he became "Papa" and continued his love and support for his three granddaughters and all of their activities. In 2018, Esa and Jeannie moved to Charbonneau to enjoy retirement. Esa enjoyed gardening, researching his genealogy, volunteering for the Messiah Lutheran Church and the Old Timers Baseball Association.
Esa is survived by his wife, Jeannie; daughters, Kirsti (Chris) Griffin and Maija (Jerry) Higginbotham; granddaughters, Sara, Cameron and Elli; brother, Pekka; and many nieces and nephews.
In the spirit of continuing the tradition of Papa's Party, a celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., July 9, 2022, at the Charbonneau Country Club in Wilsonville, OR. Please visit www.skylinememorialgardens.com to share memories.

Paavo´s smile lit up the room. My husband Mike met him at Esco and they remained friends for many years. I was sorry to learn of his passing. Sending my condolences to Jeannie and family.

I was so happy to see Esa and Jeannie at my dads memorial last summer. It had been decades but I immediately recognized their smiling faces. I have really sweet memories of their house (yard and sauna) and skiing at Timberline when I was a kid. I loved hearing stories about my dad and his friends in their youth. Really beautiful memories with Esa and Pekka featured often. I´m so sorry for this loss.

Condolences to us all. Wonderful Uncle to my children, Lynn, Sheryl, and Mikko. Always supportive to me in so many ways. Many memories back to children at Messiah, later at Jefferson, and with family. He will be missed.
