Paul Freedman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 28, 2018.
Paul Joseph Freedman died in his home on September 24, 2018 in Philadelphia, PA of an accidental overdose at 34 years of age. Paul was born on April 25, 1984 and was raised in Philadelphia, Langhorne, and Oreland, PA. He went to Springfield High School. He attended Penn State University and graduated with a BA in Communications, Arts and Sciences in 2007. Paul was an extraordinary people-person who thrived in service-oriented jobs, including but not limited to restaurant server at many restaurants, personal banker, and sales representative. His last position was as an overnight manager at the Ritz Diner on Roosevelt Blvd in Philadelphia. He was also recently appointed assistant manager at the recovery house where he lived, serving as a mentor and role model to others in recovery. He had courageously reached more than seven months of sobriety and he was an ardent member of recovery fellowships. In the last eight months of his life, Paul learned a great deal about addiction and recovery and thoroughly embraced the 12-Step program. He spoke frequently and passionately about these principles and his new lifestyle.

Paul was a spirited Phillies and Eagles fan, so much so that he had the Phillies "P" tattooed onto his leg. He loved fishing in Neshaminy State Park and Lake Nockamixon. He loved Indian food and going to Fairlane Grill in Erdenheim with his dad and cousin Dan. He was a water bug and loved swimming and boogie boarding in the ocean during summer vacations with family at the Jersey shore and spending time at Myrtle Beach with his niece Morgan. Paul was fearless and sought any and all roller coasters or opportunity for adventure. Paul was a total heartthrob and ladies' man with a smile and eyelashes that were the envy of even the most beautiful men and women. During college and after graduation, Paul loved going to Penn State football games. He was a music lover who regularly attended live concerts and the Philly Folk Fest. As a kid he spent almost every weekend with his cousins making or going to movies; he was the lead actor in his cousin Will's movies.

Paul was known for his incredible sweetness, wit, and charm. Many turned to him for advice, and Paul had such a positive attitude that his Wawa customers still talk about him. In Paul's short life, he touched the lives of many people who crossed his path and inspired us all. He will be sorely missed, but his light will remain closely held in the hearts of many.

Paul is survived by his father, James Freedman; mother, Brenda Needle (née McConnell); sisters Laura Curcio (Mark), Susan Eagan (Thomas), and Kathryn Donadio (Michael); and nieces and nephews Joshua, Amber, Maci, Lindsey, Jenna, Anthony, and Morgan.

Paul is also survived by his grandmother, Nancy Freedman; his aunt, Diane Freedman Drinker (Ned) and their children Daniel, William, and Emily; uncle, Douglas Wood (Donna); and uncle, Norman Wood (Sandi) and their sons Bryan and Mick.

Paul was predeceased by his sister, Sherry Latshaw; brother, Ben Alger; niece, Ashlee Snyder; uncle, Tom Freedman; aunt, Patricia Freedman; and grandfather, Art Freedman.

All who knew and loved Paul are welcomed to join his family in a Celebration of Life this Wednesday October 3rd at the Spring Mill Ballroom, which is located at 1210 E Hector St in Conshohocken and is easily accessible by public transportation. Visitation will start at 6pm followed by a memorial service at 8pm.

We appreciate everyone who has reached out to Paul's family to offer expressions of sympathy and their support in this difficult time. Should friends desire, donations may be made in Paul's memory to the Livengrin Foundation (www.livengrin.org/donation; 4833 Hulmeville Rd. Bensalem, PA 19020) to support those still seeking sustained recovery.

My late son Paul, and I, had a special connection, that pales what other people have said! We shared Everything, our thoughts, our hopes and dreams, our Folk music, and most of all , our Values! I carried my son, under my heart for 9 months, and Paul always said to me" Mom, your my flesh and blood". So true!

I worked with Paul at the ritz diner , and we had a special bound
I left for a better opportunity and the only thing that really upsets me is that if I was with paul at the ritz none of this would have happened .
Somehow the stress of work can become over whelming but you have to be strong.
WE talked about going to meetings and we had little pep talks before work.
I wish I could have saved him from the anguish of what ever he was going through
I cant get the thought of him out of my head
I hope he is smiling up there
YOu are truly missed

Paul was our oldest son's best friend whom we loved and considered as our 4th son. He was kind, goodhearted, fun-loving, and a genuinely loving person. His smile always lit up a room and uplifted any and all who might have been having a rough day or were in a down mood. All five of our children enjoyed so many enjoyable times with Paul, and we did as well. We will miss him terribly, but will forever cherish our happy memories we have of him. Rest in peace, dear sweet Paul.

I only knew Paul for a short period. We met while attending Penn State Berks. Paul was always a great guy. Always in good spirit and always fun to be around. I was just to send my condolences to Pauls family and friends. Lets cherish the time we have with our loves one and try to be there for each other in times of need. Paul, rest in paradise my friend.

I knew Paul through my older brother David, and grew up with him basically being my fourth older brother. He always looked out for all of my siblings and me, and he always had his famous bright, beautiful smile on his face that could light up the darkest rooms.

The last time I got to be with him was after not having seen him for quite a few years, at Davids wedding. Luckily, I had the pleasure of sharing a dance with him during the reception. After dancing, he and I went outside to catch up. We talked about our lives, the mundane - the exciting, all while enjoying the relaxing summer evening. After we caught up, he went with one of my brothers to go talk by the water to do the same. It was such a beautiful night - perfect weather. He was always ready to be there with you, to talk and listen any time you needed.

Its bittersweet that this was the last time I saw him. But Im thankful that the last time I saw him, he was with my whole family - just where he is in my heart. He will always have a special place in my heart, as Im sure the rest of my family will as well. He was one of a kind, and will be deeply missed.

I love you, Paul. You were always an amazingly sweet, caring, and beautiful person.

Knew Paul from being a customer at the diner. Always made it a point to come to our table, say hello and shake hands. He always made you fell welcome. One of the nicest and most genuine people I've ever met. You will be missed by us. My sincere condolences to his family.

Nancy, Jim, Diane and family, I was just about to text you about visiting your Mom last week (she will always be my idol), when I received this shocking news about your son and nephew. Although I did not know Paul, I know the void is just awful-there are no words for this kind of pain. Please know your entire family is in my prayers. Peace and love, Catherine (Cass) Spoerl
