PORTIA ANN FIFE

            Portia Ann Fife, 66, of Henderson, Kentucky, died peacefully Saturday, March 25, 2023, at her home surrounded by family and loved ones under the care of St Anthony’s Hospice after diagnosis with cancer.

            Portia was born in Grand Island, Nebraska, on March 24, 1957, to Portwood and Anna Fife.  Portia was a devoted mother and grandmother.  Her love for the holidays was evident through her numerous decorations, home-cooked meals, homemade candy, and handcrafted gifts.  Her passion for arts and crafts extended to her talents in basket weaving, needlepoint, and interior decorating.  Always a wonderful host and cook, Portia often catered events for friends, families, and her children’s organizations.  

            Portia spent her youth in Fort Greeley, Alaska, and then in El Paso, Texas, where she graduated from Irvin High School.  In 1976, she moved to Henderson, Kentucky, and dedicated her life and her time and energy to her four children.  As her children grew older, she began working outside of the home, first at the offices of Drs. Crick, Fife and Ervin and then at Dr. Sally Fife’s optometry office.  She retired in 2020.

            She was preceded in death by her parents.

            Those who continue to keep her memory alive are her children, Rebecca (Jonathan) Helm of Evansville, Indiana, Michael (Anne Marie) Eich of Juneau, Alaska, Melanie Eich of Henderson, Kentucky, and Stephen Eich of New York, New York; her grandchildren, Navy and Brighton Helm and Isabelle Eich; her partner of 16 years, Rick Moore of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky; her siblings, Kelly (Sally) Fife and Barbie (Donald) Marlin of Henderson, Kentucky, and Sonya (Leo) Howard of Owensboro, Kentucky; nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and many cousins.

            There will be a private family graveside service at Fernwood Cemetery.

            Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2023, and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.

            Flowers are welcome, however contributions can also be provided to St. Anthony’s Hospice in support of the care provided to Portia, as well as the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network for their tireless research for treatments and early detection, as well as advocating for patient rights.
