Thomas Pinto Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 19 to Jun. 20, 2022.
Thomas Anthony Pinto, born May 6, 1945, died June 15, 2022.

Predeceased by his parents, Angela Mary Rich Pinto and Francis Christopher Pinto, and his dear sister Lucy Ann Pinto Bland (Matthew). Survived by his loving wife, Linda Parenti, MD, his adoring children Elissa Anngela Pinto-Rathbun (Lee Rathbun) and Thomas Charles Pinto (Jena Iacco), and grandchildren, the lights of his life, Lillian Anngela Rathbun and Jackson Vance Rathbun. Also surviving are his brothers Charles Angelo (Joanne) of Arizona, Lawrence (Cheryl) of Florida, and Frank of Nevada. He also leaves many cherished nieces and nephews.

Tom was a graduate of Hoban High School, class of 1963. He studied at Notre Dame University, University of Texas at Austin, and was a graduate of Kent State University, where he earned both Bachelor and Master Degrees in education. He taught at various schools in the Diocese of Cleveland, and was both a teacher and administrator in the Akron Public Schools, again at several elementary and middle schools.

After retiring from teaching, Tom worked at the Probate Court. He was proud and pleased to administer the oath for their marriage license to Elissa and Lee in 2006.

Tom was an accomplished pianist and organist, and played for several churches at various times. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Akron, where he served as a reader, and Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist.

Tom became active in Council 3529 of the Knights of Columbus, and attained the Fourth Degree in Assembly 1768. He served as Grand Knight of his Council and was elected Faithful Navigator of his Assembly. He was proud of his service to the Church and the Knights.

Calling hours will take place at Hennessy-Bagnoli-Moore Funeral Home, 936 North Main Street, Akron Ohio, 44310 (Corner of Mildred and N. Main) on Tuesday, June 21, from 4 PM to 8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 22, at 11 AM. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Summa Health System in Tom's memory. We wish to thank the staff of the ICU T3, the nurses, aides, and especially Dr. Hussain and residents Dr. Tim Shaub and Dr. Hannah Giclas, whose excellent care was a blessing to our family and made Tom's transition to his final reward as peaceful as we ever hoped.

Dear Linda and Family,

I entered the Brothers of Holy Cross the same year as Tom. My clearest recollection of him is his directing the decorating of the dining room during our novitiate. His creativity was amazing, and we ended up with several outlines of angels in silver framed against a red background. What a wonderful talent!

Tom Pinto is not the kind of person about whom one can say just a few words. His presence and companionship was always larger than life -- from the day I met him in January of 1960. From that day we held regular communication and reflection on our lives as each unfolded. Each December 27 we passed the day together just because we were friends. Every year he would come to Chicago to visit with me, as well as his other Brother friends. The whole event was nothing more than laughing together. In times of personal troubles I understood that I could always turn to him for support, and well-grounded connections. When I learned of his passing, I literally went numb, and froze in horror. How will I survive? "Tommy Pinto, I love you and always will. You will always be my older brother, and my forever friend. Wherever you are, keep laughing and loving. Know that we are all eager to be with you again."

Tom and I attended nursery school together at Saint Anthony´s. We also attended Hoban high school together and we´re in the same class. I always like Tom´s dry sense of humor. He will be missed.
