SPENCERVILLE -- (Ora) Evon Becker, peacefully went Home to be with Jesus on March 13, 2022, surrounded by family. She was born March 2, 1924, to Daniel Benjamin Gaberdiel and Velma Mae Brubaker. On September 3, 1966, she married Carl W. Becker who preceded her in death.
She was affectionately known as Gabby to her classmates and friends. Early in life she uniquely felt her calling was "to make others feel better." As a mother, wife, friend, minister, and home health aide, she lovingly and faithfully fulfilled that purpose.
At 97, she embarked on a mission to send personally crafted cards to every family member. She never knew a stranger and valued every person she met. As a teacher, she kept in touch with former students. As a caregiver she welcomed every opportunity to care for others. As a minister she served passionately and with joy.
Mom's highest achievement was loving the Lord with all her heart, mind, and soul and loving her neighbor unconditionally. Sharing Jesus and living a life that honored Him in every thought, word, and deed was her focus. Her greatest treasure was her Bible which she read yearly from cover to cover.
She is preceded in death by both her parents, her siblings, Daniel B. Gaberdiel, Jr (Marilyn), Paul E. Gaberdiel (Helen), and Ruth Ann Reynolds (Paul), one grandchild, and one great grandchild. She is adored by her five children, Mary Shaner (Jim), Maetta Kellermeyer (Kevin), Myron Major, Byron Major (Anna), and Belinda Sandy (Mark), and Nancy Major and cherished by her 17 grandchildren and their spouses, 28 great grandchildren, and 5 great, great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, and many friends.
We do not grieve as those who have no hope. Mom lived in the Hope of the Resurrection, knowing one day she would be united with those she deeply loved.
A Celebration of Life service will be held March 26 at 1:00 PM at the Spencerville Nazarene Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00 prior to the service. A private family burial will be in the Spencerville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Spencerville Nazarene Church, 317 W North St, Spencerville, Ohio 45887.

I remember your mom enjoying going to Jonathan's basketball games and enthusiastically cheering the T.C.Bulldogs on. I grew to love her dearly over the years. I did enjoy talking with her about a variety of things. I will remember sitting on Mary's swing with Evon looking out over the lake and having a delightful chat.

Met your mother briefly many years ago. She lived a life that honored the Lord with every breath. She is dancing in fields of grace at this moment!
