John Eichenberger Obituary

EICHENBERGER, JOHN FREDERICK, PhD, 85, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010.

Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, he joined the Marines during World War II and was trained as a weatherman. This opened the door to his education under the G. I. Bill.

He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, received his Master's from Case Western Reserve and his Doctorate from the University of Minnesota. He was a distinguished Professor at the Kent School of Social Work, University of Louisville for 31 years, until his retirement in 1993.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Susan Eichenberger; his children, Kathy Roth, Bill Eichenberger, and Bob Eichenberger (Nhong); his stepdaughters, Allison Gordon-Beecher (Ken Beecher) and Melissa Rosen (Adam); and grandchildren, Sean and Brittainy Roth, Maryn and Jordan Beecher, and Maxwell Rosen.

His humble nature and quick wit endeared him to his family, friends, students and colleagues. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 at Herman Meyer and Son Funeral Home, 1338 Ellison Ave., with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Monday.

I learned to love statistics in John's class and was inspired to pursue a career as a social work statistics professor myself through his example. He remained an important inspiration to me. He will be missed
