DEAR GIRLS, I met your Dad in the 50's, when he was attending college. He loved to dance and I can see him now in a black crew neck sweater, horn rimmed glasses and huge smile. There were two girl friends who used to go to the Doghouse, to dance ... and he was so blindly in love with the one girl, Charlotte that he couldn't see any other girl except her. He would dance with other girls, but his heart belonged to Charlotte, for sure. A couple years later, when I had my son, the hospital door opened and Joe was my first visitor. Standing at the door with a huge smile -- I never forgot his kindness. Many people enjoyed knowing your Dad -- I remain one of them. May God bless both of you. Shirley O'Donnell Braun

What a fine gentlemen your dad was - he helped my business partner and I with a real estate radio show a number of years ago ; then I worked with him to sell his home in Graymoor before he moved to Crescent Hill. I am sorry to say I did not know he had been in the nursing home. He always seemed to me to be in a good mood and had a jolly laugh. He will surely be missed by many of us.

Joe was my nephew; though we were only 4 yrs apart, I recall going to St. Mary and Eliazabeth Hospital to see him when he was born. I thought he was my baby to take home but I was very sad to learn he was going home with my big sister, Evelyn. We fought alot because we spent alot of time together at my Dad's house at 4th and Central. We both shared the "Smith" stubborness and thought we were right about everything. I pray he is in heaven with my parents, my sister, Evelyn (Joe's Mom) and Paul David and Chelsey. He will be missed. I'm sorry I can't be there, but am not capable of making the trip, so I am with you in spirit, love Aunt Orene

My father, Minor, loved Joe as he reminded him of his brother, Leonard. I loved seeing Joe, because he reminded me of my father. All the Fletcher boys looked alike. Condolences to our extended family.

When you get to heaven, I know my mother Margie Harlow will welcome you with open arms and a drink of choice. Thank you for many goodtimes at her house, Turners and all the wonderful radio shows you did. You were a true friend and I will miss you very much.

I haven't seen Joe for some time, but we always had a good respect for each other. I remember when he could hardly walk and was in a wheel chair. Then he got a new hip and could dance again. He came to work for us at Cowger & Miller Mortgage Co. Later, he had me on his informative talk show on 1050. We talked about the realestate and mortgage business. I'm going to miss Joe.

Joe was always so fun to talk to, and I was a long time fan of his from the days of when I used to listen to him on WAVE 970 Radio. Several years later, while I was working at Louisville's Clear Channel Radio, and Joe was also there working at WKJK, we had so many fun conversations, and he always had some of the funniest jokes to share.
I truly felt honored to meet and know him. His professionalism and talent were an inspiration, and he was such a cool, super nice guy to talk to.
My condolences and prayers go out to Joe's family and friends.
God Bless,

Joe was one of my "fun" cousins and I have many great memories of him and Charlotte, Elaine and Jolynnie growing up with them. We shared many backyard picnic/wiffle ball/volleyball/swimming times and always had a blast! Being in sales, Joe and I always had a joke or two to exchange. I will miss him but I know his struggles here on earth are over. I'm glad I went and saw him and prayed with him the day before he died. My Mom, Ruth Stamper, is the last of the Mohicans on the Smith side (his Mom's, Evelyn Fletcher)and resides here in Bardstown in a nursing home. He will be missed and my love and prayers go out to my sweet cousins during this difficult time.

I worked with Joe at WAVE Radio in the mid 70's. He was always upbeat and had a joke to share. In later years, I'd see Joe at various events and he seemed to maintain that "positive" attitude. He did leave his mark on Louisville and will be missed.
