Agnes Cavin Obituary

Agnes I. Cavin, age 82, of New Carlisle, Indiana, died on Aug. 17, 2023.

She was born on July 28, 1941, in La Porte to Raphael and Angeline (Kobos) Gorski. On April 8, 1961, she married Charles L. Cavin at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Otis, Indiana. Charles preceded her in death Aug. 16, 1994.

Agnes graduated from Westville High School and Reese Business College. She was previously employed by Blocksom & Co., American Home Foods, Farm Bureau Co-op, Hamilton Communities and at the Big House (which has been torn down) and Lake's Elevator.

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Cavin of La Porte; and a son, David (Rita) Cavin of Rolling Prairie; and a stepdaughter and caregiver, Celeste Fredlake. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph (Barb Jones) Gorski; and a sister, Clara (James) Shebel. She is also survived by her brother and sisters-in-law, Raymond (Carolyn) Symkowski and Darrel (Barb) Cavin; and an aunt, Mary Kulasa. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a nephew; sister-in-law, Bernadine Gorski; a son, Dale on Feb. 1, 1983; and her husband, Charles; and her parents.

She was a previous member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Stanislaus Church in Terre Coupe. She was currently a member of Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph Church. Other hobbies included reading and putting puzzles together, one of which is not finished.

Thanks to all the third-floor nurses at Northwest Health-La Porte hospital. The compassion and care that you showed our mom were more than any books could teach, and you all truly made her feel special for her stay at the hospital.

Thanks to Dunes Hospice for providing the support and care for our mom. Your outward signs of caring and concern were above and beyond anything that my brother and I could have imagined. Thank you all.

To David and I, mom was the most courageous and strongest person that we know and a perfect example of what endless and selfless love is from a mother. Mom, please tell everyone we say "hello" when you see them and forever rest in peace.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Ave., La Porte, Indiana.

Deb never meant you mom but felt the love for her and enjoyed the many stories you shared of her at lunch time. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.
