Joyce S. Manning, 81, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Dec. 10, 2021.
Joyce was born to the late Ewald F. and Bernice (Wentland) Peters on Sept. 30, 1940, in Michigan City, Indiana. Joyce was also preceded in death by her husband, William C. Manning, Sr.; her sister, Janice (Peters) Prast; and her son-in-law, Christopher Knoppel.
Joyce is survived by her three children, Dr. William (Bill) C. Manning Jr., Bethany J. Manning and Kirk F. Manning; grandsons, Anthony, Aidan and Alaric Manning; great-grandson, Jackson; and her sister, Pamela (Peters) Shrader.
Joyce, along with her sisters, were all baptized, confirmed and raised in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Michigan City, Indiana. Joyce and her husband, Bill, took pride in raising their three children in the Lutheran faith. Joyce was a student at St. Paul Lutheran School from kindergarten through eighth grade. She graduated from Elston High School in 1958.
On Aug. 19, 1961, Joyce married the love of her life, William (Bill) C. Manning Sr. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They met while passing each other on the sidewalk on Franklin Street in Michigan City. Joyce was walking to her job at First National Bank. Bill was walking to class at the Purdue University extension, where he studied for his first two years of college.
Shortly after getting married, they moved to the Purdue University main campus in West Lafayette, Indiana, and lived in married student housing. Joyce worked at a bank while Bill continued his studies. They moved to Warsaw, Indiana, in 1966.
Joyce worked for many years at Lake City Bank in Winona Lake, Indiana. Bill worked for Dana Corporation in Syracuse, Indiana. During their retirement years, they lived in La Porte, Indiana. Joyce and Bill were married for 58 years.
Joyce became friends with her loyal customers in the community and was very close with her work colleagues, neighbors and best friends, especially her dear friends, Sandy Esmoer and Judy Drudge.
Joyce enjoyed spending time at Washington Park beach, playing Mexican Train dominoes, doing puzzles, and knitting. She loved all animals, especially Max, her shelter dog of 14 years. She also held a special place in her heart for her Labrador retriever, Sophie, and her golden retriever granddogs, Myla and Molly.
Joyce, Mom a.k.a. "Angel," Grandma, and Great Grandma filled the lives of her loved ones with endless amounts of joy, strength, hope and love. She will forever be missed; she will always be loved; and she will be seen again in Paradise.
The family would like to thank Dunes Hospice.
