Sandra "Sandy" Kay McVay, 82, of Wakarusa peacefully entered eternity at 8:34 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at Waterford Crossing, Goshen, in the presence of her loving family.
She was born Aug. 29, 1942, in La Porte to Lloyd John and Onalee (Andrews) Curtis Sr. On Dec. 14, 1963, she married her high school sweetheart, William "Bill" Harvey McVay, to whom she was devoted for 48 1/2 years until Bill died on July 26, 2012.
Surviving are her two children, Timothy William (Pamela) McVay of St. Joseph, Michigan, and Tricia Kay (John) Foster of Wakarusa; five grandchildren, Sarah (Obadiah) Clemans, Keegan McVay, Amanda Foster, Molly McVay and Lauren Foster; and two great-grandchildren, Arsenius Clemans and Cleophee Clemans.
Preceding her in death are both parents; husband, Bill; brother, LJ Curtis Jr.; and a sister, Carmo Johnson.
Sandy was a 1961 graduate of La Porte High School and a 1969 graduate of Bethel College with a BA in elementary education. Over the years, Sandy led children's programs, sang in choirs, and served as secretary at the various churches that her husband, Bill, pastored. One of Sandy's favorite roles included her time at the Free Methodist World Ministries Center in the Missions Department.
In her free time, Sandy loved and served her children and grandchildren to the fullest and was a tremendous example of selfless sacrifice. She enjoyed tending to her beautiful indoor plants and prided herself in keeping an immaculate, welcoming home throughout the years. For the last 22 of those years, home was Wakarusa where she was a member at Wakarusa Missionary Church.
The family will hold a private celebration of life service.

I met Sandy and Bill first at Bethel College. Bill and I were classmates. As years passed I had friendly conversations with Sandy and Bill at various places and events. Lost contact with them but have great remembrances of both. God bless and comfort this family.
