Sloan Watson Obituary

Sloan Angeline Watson passed away unexpectedly on April 9, 2025.

One of six children, Sloan was born to Christella and Kenneth Moryl on June 26, 1970, and was raised in a busy family in La Porte, Indiana.

Sloan graduated from the University of Dayton where she studied communications.

Sloan met her husband, Tom, serendipitously on the "El," married shortly thereafter and welcomed Maclaine, Elisabeth and Owen. They settled in Oak Park and raised their family in a home they lovingly restored.

Sloan adored her family. She was known for piggyback rides, frequent excursions to Maple Park and spontaneous trips to the beach to capture summer's waning days. As the kids grew, Sloan was often found decked out in OPRF swag cheering from the bleachers.

Sloan was vice president of marketing at Bulley & Andrews construction firm for 25 years and was thrilled Oak Park's public library was both widely used and built by the company for which she worked.

Sloan was an avid reader, traveler, Kelly Corrigan listener who had a passion for decorating, thrift store shopping and a love for dogs.

She was an inherent optimist who loved the quote "write it on your heart that every day is the best day of the year" and lived it.

Sloan never forgot a birthday, was unconditionally supportive during happy and challenging times, and frequently mailed a note to remind you how special you are. She immediately volunteered if someone needed help and always genuinely reflected "I was grateful to have had the opportunity."

Simply put, Sloan was the kindest and most thoughtful of humans.

In addition to her loving husband, Tom, Sloan is survived by their beloved children, Lainie, Lily and Owen; and her adored dog, Indy. She is also survived by her mother, Chris; four sisters, Maria Amor (Matt), Joellen Kamp (Joel Benford), Koreen Boger (Brian) and Melissa Garwood (Michael Sanders); her brother, Matt Moryl; Tom's extended family; nieces; nephews; godchildren; countless dear friends; and former colleagues.

She is preceded in death by her father, Ken.

A visitation will be held at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Rd., Westchester, Illinois, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 3 p.m. until the beginning of a 7 p.m. funeral service and words of remembrance.

Memorials to Hephzibah Home, 946 North Blvd., Oak Park, IL 60301, in Sloan's memory are deeply appreciated.

In the spirit of Sloan, please enjoy a cold beer, any treat made with caramel and consider offering a kind act for someone and smile. She would be thrilled!

I'm devastated to learn the news of Sloan's passing. She was one of my all time favorite people on this planet. We met at UD and have stayed connected through the years, and just a few days before she passed we were texting to set up a 'reunion' because we hadn't seen each other in years. I was so looking forward to that. When that chat went dormant, I just figured she was busy, as always. So many things going on in her lift that would lift the lives of those around her. Sloan was an amazing bright light, and I know she lived an amazing life and leaves an amazing legacy in her children and all those she touched. Jay and I send our deepest condolences to Tom and the kids and the whole Moryl and Watson extended families. Sloan will be deeply missed. May she rest in eternal peace.

It's very obvious that she was Ken and Crissys daughter. She came from an exceptionally loving family. Jvm

My deepest condolences to Sloan’s family and friends. Over the years, I had the privilege of knowing Sloan through work. She made everyone feel special. Sloan was the shining star in every room, and I already miss her infectious laugh and positivity. I feel truly grateful to have known her.

At every meet-up, Sloan would proudly share stories about her family, always talking about Tom, Lainie, Lily, and Owen and their latest accomplishments. She was a wonderful, kind, and fun person. I will always cherish the memories and the impact she had on everyone around her.

The best memories are of childhood and experiencing God with friends in our most formative years! This was taken at our confirmation retreat! There was always a sparkle in the room when she was present! She will not be forgotten!!

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends as they grieve the loss of Sloan. I went to high school with Sloan and lost touch with her over the years. After reading the obituary I was not shocked to hear all the wonderful accomplishments and lives she positively impacted. The common theme I heard was how kind and giving of herself she was to others which is exactly how I remember her in high school.

God rest your soul Sloan and peace be with all who mourn the loss of such a special person.

My deepest condolences to Sloan's family and friends. I went to high school with Sloan where we were classmates and friends. Dayton and Miami were close and we visited with our respective friends at least once in college. She was always special. It was a joy to read about the brightness she brought her family, neighbors and friends later in her life after we lost touch. Everyone who knew her feels grateful for having done so. Bless her circle.

Sloan was not only a wonderful person. She was a DETERMINED wonderful person. She was compelled to be kind, to help, to smile. I believe if we gathered all our Sloan stories together—many of them simple acts of kindness—we would be illuminated beyond measure. Let’s remember this illumination, and always keep Sloan very close to our hearts.

I knew Sloan from the AEC marketing world and was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of her passing. Her integrity, brilliance in the field, generosity, and good humor made her a very special person to know. I am grateful for the experiences I had with her - she introduced me to Antique Taco, where we shared the ups and downs of life and the profession. Sloan truly made the world a better place and her absence is an uninvited cloud we all will have hanging over us for a long time. I am so, so sorry for this huge loss to her family.

I met Sloan almost twenty years ago through SMPS for which she was a leader in the Chicago Chapter. Since then she has been a trusted colleague within the industry and friend! The very best kind of person you can know. She will be missed dearly by her beloved family, her B&A family, friends, colleagues and everyone in the AEC industry!

When I think about Sloan, I just think about how she was the ultimate mother. She was always there when I was walking around the neighborhood and I had the joy of babysitting for her kids when they were young, and watching them grow through the years. It was a joy and a pleasure knowing her, and it is incredibly beautiful knowing all the lives she has touched along her way. She will be greatly missed. Sending love to all of those remembering her.

Sloan was the embodiment of kindness and always looking to shine a light on the contribution of each individual. She was a true cheerleader of everyone here. I will miss her enthusiasm and spirit, but her brightness is now shining in a new place and in a new way for us all to cherish.
