Anita Morfin
RUPERT - Anita Morfin, 79, of Rupert, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at the Rupert United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.

I grew up with her daughters. I also worked in the school district for a number of years where I would occasionally fill in for the head custodians. So I had a few opportunities to work at her school and talk with her. She was a lovely wonderful lady.

I was blessed to be in Anita´s first second grade class and often still think fondly of the lasting impact of my time in Mrs. Beebe´s class. I am still reciting poems and singing songs to my own children and students. I have been thinking a lot lately (and actually talking to my husband about) her reading books to us about Harriet Tubman and Susan B. Anthony and Martin Luther King. I was thinking just last week about going with her to see her vote. And one of my favorites -- earning money to donate to the Statue of Liberty restoration project and getting books back from President Reagan. Letting my teeth become loose enough that she could scrub up and pull them, singing songs with the piano on the carpet, having guests come in and talk to us to broaden our experience of things outside our tiny rural community, visiting the hospital to help us understand rather than fear, compiling books of our own writing -- all memorable moments in the impressionable mind of a seven year old in Rupert, Idaho. I remember vividly the tears as I knelt with my family the night before the last day of second grade and prayed that I would feel better so I could go to my last day in her class. And although it wasn't to be, I remember it because it was that important to me. These are fond memories, but are also more -- they have impacted who I have become as a person and what I hope to leave with my children.
I have been blessed to know many truly remarkable people, Anita among them. There are a handful of school teachers I will always treasure and she were the first.
Thank you, Anita, for being another positive, lasting influence in shaping my life. I have been blessed to be surrounded by goodness and beauty my entire life and blessed further because those beautiful people embracing me helped me to recognize it. Thank you! Thank you for caring. Thank you for loving us. Thank you to your family for sharing you.
