He was born Sept. 30, 1953, in New London, Conn., the son of Joseph and Margaret (Reilly) Devoy. Tom grew up in Philadelphia, Pa., and moved to Maine in the late 1970s.
He was employed as a welder by Bath Iron Works for the last 27 years, helping build ships for the Navy. He moved to Winthrop in the early 1990s. Tom loved living in Maine and loved the outdoors.
Among the many outdoor activities he enjoyed were summer and winter fishing, kayaking, camping, snowshoeing and archery. He had a passion for history, a big heart, a great sense of humor, was a dedicated father, great son, brother and overall family man, and a loyal friend. He always supported his family and was the best father you could ask for.
Tom was predeceased by a sister, Joanne McDonough.
He is survived by his children, Sara and Ryan Devoy, both of Winthrop; his parents, Joseph J. Devoy, and his wife, Stella, of Glenolden, Pa.; his mother, Margaret Devoy, of Philadelphia; his brothers, Joseph Devoy, and his wife, Barbara, of Claremont, N.H., and Robert Devoy, of Philadelphia; his sisters, Kathleen Feldman, of Warminster, Pa., Patricia Allison and her husband, Eric, of Newark, Del., and Regina Tierno and her husband, Tony, of Philadelphia; along with many nieces and nephews. He also leaves Marianne Labokey with whom he was in a relationship.
A celebration of his life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. There will be a memorial service in the Philadelphia area at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a fund will be established for the children at the Winthrop Area Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 55, Winthrop, ME 04364. Make checks payable to the Credit Union with Devoy Children's Fund in the notation.

Although no words can help to ease the loss, and today does not make sense and tomorrow probably won't either- the pain of this tragedy will not hurt as bad with time passing day-by-day. May you find peace and courage and understanding on the passing of your son, brother, father, friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Cousin Tommy, I will never forget our summers down in Ocean City, New Jersey when your girl cousins would line up for hickey eyes (lol). We would go up on the boardwalk so proud with our hickey eyes lol. I will miss that handsome face. There must be one hell of a party going on in Heaven.
