Albert Endriss Obituary

Albert James Endriss entered his eternal rest on November 7, 2023, in the company of his loving family at his home. Al was a Bay Area native, born February 18, 1928 in Oakland, California. Al was a stand out athlete in his youth, having excelled at St. Elizabeth's High School. He went on to have a brief career in professional sports. He played baseball in the Brooklyn Dodgers organization for three years before playing football for the San Francisco 49ers. He had fond memories of playing at Kezar Stadium. It was during this time, when he was home visiting in Oakland, that he met the love of his life, Jacqueline Rose. The two had been together ever since, having a strong and loving marriage for 67 years. Al and Jackie moved to Marin County in 1958, where he had a great impact on the community. He was a teacher at Redwood High School for 35 years. While he was a highly regarded teacher, he is likely best known for his coaching career, having coached football (15 years) and baseball (21 years) at Redwood, as well as being the head baseball coach at College of Marin (15 years). Al also had stints being the coach at Santa Clara University and the French National team. He ended his coaching career as a golf coach at The Branson School. He accumulated 937 total wins as a baseball coach. Al was inducted into the following Hall of Fames: Marin Athletic Foundation, College of Marin, Redwood High School Athletics, San Francisco State University and the National Baseball Coaches HOF. He was not only a teacher and coach, but a true mentor for so many former players, off the field, for all the years after.Al loved being with family and friends, especially over the holidays. He was always charismatic, full of energy and dressed well for any occasion. He spent a great amount of time in his life in one of his favorite locations, Lake Tahoe, where he also had a home. He loved to sit on the deck in Tahoe, with a glass of wine, and play any family member willing in a game of Backgammon. Al was a man of faith, being a long time member of both St. Patrick's and St. Anthony's churches. He and Jackie were proud parents of three children - Mark (Misty), Matt (Jennifer Miller) and Nicole (Chad Stuart). All three attended Redwood High School when Al was a teacher at the school. Both Mark and Matt played on his baseball teams. In addition to his wife and children, Al is survived by seven loving grandchildren and one great grandchild. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on November 17, 2023 at St. Patrick Church in Larkspur.

I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. I am getting up there in years and wondered what happened to him. He first inspired me as a young 15 year old at the Broglio and Setpa baseball camp. I started switch hitting and my friends and brothers made fun of me,until Coach Endriss pulled me aside and told me I had tremendous potential. His belief in me tremendously helped a young and insecure player. I ended up playing 4 years of college baseball and batted cleanup in college and semi pro baseball at the old Renfree field in Sacramento. I will never forget you coach
God bless you.....Brad Harms

While I never knew Albert Endriss, I know his son Matt. Albert must have been a class act, because Matt is and I know he learned it from his parents. Matt has told me that his father was his "best friend", which tells you that Albert was indeed a special person. My deepest condolences to the entire Endriss family. My prayers are with you.

Dear Jackie-I want to send my condolences to you and your family for the passing of Coach Al!
I don'y know if you remember my folks, the Bagliettos, but you and Al, back in the 60's and 70's use to get together at different functions.
My brother Jack and I were students at Redwood High School 58 to 61.
Jack played baseball for BobTroutman and Al. Later as the years flew by, my son, Jeff Pearce, was coached by Al at College of Marin and was awarded a scholarship to Pepperdine. He was picked up by Seattle and later San Diego
where he played till he was injured.
We lost Jeff in 2017 at age 48 so now he is reuniting with his much admired coach, Al Endriss.
May time heal you and your family. I send my love and heartfelt sorrow!
