David L. Grunau

David L. Grunau of Mill Valley died April 6th after a long illness. Born in Bronxville, NY, and raised in Valparaiso, Indiana, he graduated from Valparaiso University, and Purdue University as a mechanical engineer, and has an MBA from Stanford. He served in the U.S. Coastguard, prior to attending Stanford Business School.An engineer by training, David installed water desalination plants using reverse osmosis in hotels across the Caribbean, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, and the Middle East.Having been a lifelong bachelor, at the age of 68, he married Leslie Solmes in 1999. He loved playing tennis, and sailing his sailboat around the bay from his dock. He was a member of Harbor Point Tennis club and an early member of the Sausalito Yacht Club. David traveled with Leslie and sometimes friends around the world, in Europe and New Zealand. The couple owned a house in Keri-Keri, NZ, and divided their time between NZ and Marin.David had a wicked sense of humor that he maintained until his final days, and was able to die in his beloved house. He leaves many friends and family to remember him.
