Michael Bernard Obituary

Michael Arthur Bernard and Vicki Curtiss Bernard, married 50 years, both recently passed away from complications due to COVID-19. Michael passed on November 25, and Vicki on December 2. Michael was born on December 16, 1949 in New York. He was later adopted by Arthur and Gladys (Taylor) Bernard in Clinton, N.Y. He attended Union Springs Academy (N.Y.), then Atlantic Union College (Mass.), studying History and Education. He married Vicki Ann Curtiss in 1971. He later earned master's degrees from the University of Connecticut and Lehigh University (Pa). Vicki was born in Atlanta on July 9, 1949 to Leon and Martha (Gilliland) Curtiss. The family settled in Ohio, where Vicki attended Mount Vernon Academy. She graduated in 1968, then attended Atlantic Union College where she met Michael and received a degree in Music Education. She later earned a master's in Elementary Education from Kutztown University. They eventually moved to the Lehigh Valley. Michael taught grades 4 – 6 and Vicki taught music education at the Lehigh Valley Seventh-day Adventist School (now Whitehall Christian School) for 16 years. Vicki also enjoyed serving as an organist at St. Peters United Church of Christ in Seemsville, Pa. The family was actively involved in the Allentown Seventh-day Adventist church. In 1992, the couple and their three children, V. Michelle, Michael and Katharine, moved to Wellsboro, Pa., where they both taught at Irvin Comstock Seventh-day Elementary School. Before retiring, Mike switched careers to serve as the pastor of several local Adventist churches. Vicki retired as principal and teacher at the school. www.buckheitfcandcrematory.com
