George Hanlon Obituary
May 10, 1937 - July 13, 2021
Modesto, California - Son of John (Jack) Plummer and Gertrude Jenness Travis Hanlon, born on May 10, 1937, in Escalon, youngest of seven. He attended Burwood Elementary, Dent Elementary, and Escalon High School where he was active in basketball, track, football and FFA. George started working young with his first job being on the Hale's Dairy in Escalon, feeding and milking cows, and married Faye Doris Klatt on October 2, 1954. He became a Journeyman with the Sheet Metal Workers' Union California, working for Hogan Manufacturing, Blow Pipe, United Sheet Metal, and Ram Mountain. George worked on jobs from Redding to San Bernardino, retiring in 1992 with 36 years of service in the industry.
George's hobbies were waterskiing, horses, and packing into the back country on horseback, fabrication and designing trailers. He was a member of Escalon's Saron Lutheran Church, a choir member, and an assisting minister. Along with his wife Faye, George was a former member of the Townsend Opera Singers and Stockton Chorale performing in Germany and at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Besides traveling, he enjoyed his family.
George was preceded in death of his parents: John (Jack) and Gertrude Hanlon, his 6 siblings: Helen Hodgson, Jacquelyn Borges, Ruth Mello, Thelma Silveira, and Jack and Jim Hanlon, and his daughter Dianne Hanlon Adams Jones. His surviving family include his wife of 66 years, Faye D. Klatt, daughter Sherry Higginbotham of Fresno, Sons Lonny Hanlon of Escalon, and David Hanlon of Mineral Wells, Texas, as well as 14 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Deegan Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Saron Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Burwood Cemetery.
