David Charles Dakil, 66 of Blackwell, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025 in Midland, Texas surrounded by his children, mother and sister. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29th from 5:30pm - 7:00pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory. Services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 2:00pm at First Methodist Church of Midland, Texas. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.
David was born on February 14, 1959 in Canyon, Texas to Camal Charles Dakil and Nancy Adcock Dakil. After his parents graduated from West Texas State University, they moved to Dumas, Texas where the family grew and David's little sister, Susan Lea was born. In 1966, they moved to Midland, Texas where David attended school and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1977. He was a talented athlete for the Rebels who focused on football, playing both offense and defense. He made the game winning tackle against Odessa Permian to win 14 - 13 and capture the District title in 1976.
David was always known for his kindness and loyalty. He was a gentleman and fierce defender of anyone he loved or perceived to be the underdog. After graduating, David turned down a football scholarship from Princeton, and as always the rebel, decided to attend Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He married Kandi Sue Murphy in 1981 and shared 3 beautiful children with her, each being born 5 years apart: David Camal, Brittany Lea and Dylan Charles. They were the loves of his life and his most proud accomplishment.
His career included various positions in the oil and gas industry, beginning with a Gulf Coast off-shore job on a drilling rig. He then started his own company in the wireline business, followed by a career shift into Human Resources and Insurance. Once again, though, his love for freedom and the outdoors encouraged him to go into the Land side of the oil industry where he could get out from behind a desk. He happily traveled through Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas as an independent Landman until he recently retired.
David made his permanent home at Lake Oak Creek in Blackwell, Texas where his family had enjoyed many vacations and holidays since he was in high school. His favorite pastime of fishing now became an everyday occurrence. He raised chickens, enjoyed the neighborhood deer and marveled at the nature in what he referred to as "God's Country". He and his dad appreciated the beauty in that part of Texas and he woke up happy every single day, living with his two dogs Zayda and Jane.
David was an intellect who enjoyed politics, current events, music and the Dallas Cowboys. He always remained an avid fan no matter their season or record. He also loved traveling to the ocean for deep sea fishing and all the other amenities that came on a tropical excursion. David walked in faith and never missed a day of reading his Bible. Although his life took a turn that he never expected with a late-stage pancreatic cancer diagnosis, David knew where he was going …. just a little bit earlier than he wanted. He was our hero for his unwavering strength battling a horrific disease amidst his desire to have more time with his beloved children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his son David Dakil and wife Georgia; daughter Brittany Huddleston and husband Wes; son Dylan Dakil; grandchildren Landon Dakil, Olivia Dakil, and Holt Huddleston; mother Nancy Dakil; sister Susan Thompson and husband Bob; nephew Ryan Rowland and wife Heather; niece Taylor English and husband Carter; great nephews Rhett Rowland, Parker Rowland, Hunter Rowland; great nieces Rose Rowland and Isabelle English.
David is preceded in death by his father Camal Dakil; grandparents Shaker Dakil, Clarence and Bertha Adcock, George and Blanche Farris; and uncle George Farris, Jr.
