Joan Mandel, 76, of Washington, NJ passed away from cancer at home on Monday, March 19, 2012. She was born in New Brunswick to the late Earl and Mary Schwartzkopf. She grew up in Metuchen and attended Metuchen High School. Joan lived in Metuchen until moving to Washington in 1996. Joan attended Syracuse University and Katharine Gibbs School. She worked in real estate for many years including owning Park Realty in South Plainfield. She was an avid and talented decorative painter, belonging to several painting clubs in the area. Joan loved giving her decorative pieces to family and friends. She was enthusiastic about theatre, gardening, vacationing, and the beach.

Joan is survived by her husband, Robert of 21 years, her daughters, Dale Eosso Staunton, her husband, Paul, Dale's stepdaughters, Kristin and Danielle, all of Wayne, Lee Eosso Debetaz and her husband Paul, of Missouri City, TX, granddaughters, Madeline and Grace, her stepson, David Mandel of NYC, stepdaughter, Lauren Mandel and partner Donette Smith, and grandsons, Zane and Max of Newburgh, NY.

Joan donated her body to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ for research. A memorial gathering to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 214 Rt. 31 North, Washington, NJ 07882.
