David Mayo Obituary

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH | David Mayo passed away at his home in Tidewater, North Myrtle Beach, July 16, 2009.

Born in Manchester, England, December 31, 1946 to Margaret and Emrys, he was the youngest of seven.

David began his career in Manchester, England, and with his natural leadership ability, quickly rose to the top finally starting his own computer networking business. He and his wife retired to North Myrtle Beach to enjoy golf and sunshine. After many years of ''honing his skills'' on the golf course, he found employment at Thistle Golf and soon became Club Manager, a position that suited him to a ''tee.''

David leaves behind his wife, Diane of North Myrtle Beach; his family in England, son, Jonathan and wife, Jodie; daughter, Jane and husband, James; six grandchildren, Darcy, Libby, Charlotte, Hattie, Henry and Frederick David; brothers, Peter, Tom, Alan; and sister, Margaret.

A celebration and tribute to his life will be held at Thistle Golf in Calabash, N.C., at a later date.

Lee Funeral Home & Crematory of Little River/N. Myrtle Beach is serving the family.

I was at the Candle light ceremony at Lee Funeral home as my mom passed away this past June. As they read the list of names, David Mayo was read about four names past my mother's. This was the first I heard of his passing. I will always remember David and Diane, my two favorite customers at SeaBlue. So sorry to hear of his passing, but so happy I had the chance to know him.

Only just heard from Jonathan the sad news about David's death , we didn't know he had been ill so it is such a shock . Diane , Linda and I will always remember the happy holidays we shared with you both in England , Spain and Myrtle Beach . Everyone at Greenmount Golf Club will be sad and we will fly the flag at half mast. Remember those curry nights we used to have near your flat in Prestwich and the hilarious night we all had when Linda was Lady Captain. Happy days , long remembered. To Diane:
It's a sad time for the whole coastal Carolina golf community with the loss of our friend David. We will all miss his friendship, his quick wit, his sincerity and his laughter - and he did laugh! His life touched us all and we will always equate the Thistle with David. We'll all miss hearing him answer the phone, "Good afternoon-Thistle Golf Club - this is David, how may I help you?"

I guess I just wanted to be one of many who can stand and say that that David's life mattered to alot of people and he will never be forgotten.

My very deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Diane

I am deeply saddened for the loss of David to you, the family and our community.

David, as an Englishman, with his insight and uplifting spirit continued to cement the ties between the Brits and the Yanks.

My prayers are with you.

Diane and family,

I wanted to extend my condolences to all of you and your extended family. David had the kindest soul and always asked, "Stacy, how are you doing today? And how is the family?"

When I left Tidewater, I had several friends say that when David saw them at various golf courses, he would always ask how I was doing and to say hello. He was always the thoughtful gentleman!

Diane, often think of the wonderful memories and the fantastic times you and David had together. I do hope your heart will find a smile and know that David is and always will be with you.
