Arthur Todd Alexander, age 83, of New Castle, passed away the morning of June 3, 2025, at Quality Life Services – New Castle.
Born March 13, 1942, in
New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late Arthur B. and Catharine (Bittinger) Alexander.
He was married to Suzanne (Wherry) Alexander, his beloved wife of 60 years. She survives at home.
After high school graduation, Todd attended Grove City College. His courtship with his future wife Sue began when he was a waiter in her freshman dorm, and she asked him to her sorority dance. During his years at Grove City, he was an outstanding athlete earning 10 Varsity Letters. He was eventually inducted into the Grove City College Sports Hall of Fame, as well as the Lawrence County Sports Hall of Fame.
Following graduation from Grove City, he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals and played in the Single A Baseball League in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was signed by the same agent who signed Stan Musial. Due to the Cardinal's reorganization at that time, most of the team was released, and Todd returned to New Castle to join the family Sporting Goods business. He was a sales rep and eventual owner of the business where he worked for 39 years and had the pleasure of working alongside his children.
Todd was a lifelong member of Highland Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was also a former member of Jaycees, Rotary, The Elks, and the New Castle Country Club. After retirement, he and his wife spent their summers on the shores of Lake Erie at Van Buren Point, NY where he was "the self-proclaimed Mayor." At the cottage, he spent his time golfing, biking, playing cards, tending and watering flower gardens, and always enjoying Happy Hour with friends and family.
Todd was an avid Sports Fan. He followed the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, Penguins as well as Penn State Football faithfully. His grandchildren were the highlight of his life, and he attended when able all of their various school and sports events.
Todd had a wonderful zest for life and people, evidenced by his numerous friends far and wide. He never entered a room quietly. He will be remembered for singing Hymns and knowing all the words by heart and constantly humming his favorite tunes.
In addition to his wife, Todd is survived by one daughter, Amy (Brad) Turk and one son, Greg (Amy) Alexander, both of
New Castle, PA; one brother, David Alexander of Lake Norman, NC; one sister, Sallie Abraham of The Villages, FL; and four grandchildren, Jaret and Camille Alexander and Hunter and Preston Turk.
