Abbie Dwayne Combs, a beacon of love and selflessness, was called home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on June 19, 1947, in Whaleyville, MD, Abbie's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and the joy she found in her family and friends. She departed this world in
Salisbury, MD, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom and kindness that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Abbie was the beloved wife of George "Russell" Combs, with whom she shared a lifetime of adventures and tender moments. Together, they raised their devoted son, David Russell Combs, who, along with his wife, Tonya Hudson Combs, gave Abbie the precious gift of family. Her role as a grandmother to Meghan Combs Tirpak and her spouse Andrew, as well as her grandson Aaron Combs, was one of her greatest joys. Abbie's love extended to her brother, Eddie Phillips and his spouse Lisa, her sister Debbie Burke and her spouse Jim, and her adoring nieces, grandnephews, and grandniece, all of whom she cherished deeply.
Abbie's commitment to her community was evident through her work. She dedicated 36 years to Schmidt Baking Company and 15 years to Zales Jewelry Store, all while representing Mary Kay with passion and enthusiasm. Her colleagues and clients alike were touched by her generous spirit and her innate ability to make every interaction a memorable one.
A proud graduate of Stephen Decatur High School, Abbie carried with her the lessons learned and friendships forged, often reminiscing about the cherished memories of her youth. Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. She found solace and strength in her Bible, which was well-loved and often read. Abbie's faith guided her every step and inspired those around her to live with purpose and grace.
Abbie's interests were as diverse as they were heartfelt. She reveled in cruising and traveling with Russell, finding joy in the shared discovery of new places and experiences. Shopping with her granddaughter Meghan brought her immeasurable happiness, as did watching her grandson Aaron play and coach baseball. Abbie's quick wit was a source of laughter and delight, a gift she generously shared with everyone she met. She was an avid reader, a lover of true crime and Million Dollar Dream Home, and an unwavering supporter of the Baltimore Orioles, embodying loyalty even in the face of defeat.
Christmas was a special time for Abbie, as it presented her with the opportunity to spoil her loved ones, a tradition she embraced wholeheartedly. Her dog's companionship during their walks was yet another joy in her abundant life.
In describing Abbie, the words loving, selfless, and wise come to mind effortlessly. She lived by the well-known axiom, attributed to St. Francis of Assisi, "For it is in giving that we receive." Abbie's life was a living embodiment of this principle, as she gave freely of herself to everyone she encountered.
Abbie Dwayne Combs will be deeply missed but her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she loved. Her memory will be a guiding light, a reminder to live with generosity, laughter, and an unwavering faith.
