Addison “Bob - Lawn Mower Man” Blankenship, 93, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025. Born on May 22, 1931, in Grundy, Virginia, Bob lived a life full of strength, determination, and a love for his family, friends, and community.
Bob was a dedicated truck driver for Waste Management for over 30 years, a job he took pride in with a relentless work ethic. Known for his strong-minded and stubborn nature, Bob earned the nickname “Hell on Wheels” from those who knew him well. He was the kind of man who didn't have to be a dad, but was the father figure to many, offering wisdom, kindness, and unwavering support.
Outside of work, Bob had a passion for life’s simpler pleasures. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, always ready for an adventure. A lifelong fan of NASCAR, Bob had a special place in his heart for race cars, having built a few of his own in his younger days. He also had a soft spot for television, particularly for The Price is Right, but he also the 3 Stooges and Sanford and Son. A devoted University of Kentucky basketball fan, Bob could often be found cheering on the Wildcats from his favorite spot at home.
Bob was perhaps best known around his neighborhood as “The Lawn Mower Man.” He had a unique talent for fixing and working on lawn mowers, often helping neighbors with their own machines. He loved sitting on his porch, waving to passersby, and striking up a conversation with anyone who stopped by. No one was ever a stranger to Bob, as he always made time to chat with anyone who came his way.
A true fighter, Bob faced every challenge with grit and determination. His love for his dogs and his concern for the weather—always hoping for rain—were just a few of the many things that made him who he was. His hearty laugh, quick wit, and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
Bob is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mildred Blankenship; parents; 1 son, Jospeh Blankenship; grandson, Corey Blankenship; and granddaughter, Anita Angelini.
Left to cherish his memory, Bob is survived by his daughter, Shannon Chandler (Chris); daughter-in-law, Brandy Crabb; 8 grandchildren, Tyler Blankenship (Shelby), Kali Masden, Brionna Driver, Brooklynn Chandler, Daryl Engle, Renee Engle, Brian Little (Kayla), and Kyle Boyd; 4 great-grandchildren, Bryson, Aspyn, Boston, and Chad; Faithful Companions, Fredo and Ace; and host of extended family and close friends.
