Adolf Finkbeiner "Al" Adolf was born to eternal life on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the age of 82. Preceded in death by Liz, his loving wife of 49 years. Cherished father of Linda (Dennis) Salentine, David (Jenny) Strigens and Tom (Krystal) Finkbeiner, and the late Lora Ann Finkbeiner. Proud Opa of Ryan, Jordan, Lilly, Erin, Ian, Stephanie and Nora & Josie. Loving brother to Herb Finkbeiner, Ernie Finkbeiner and Samantha (Denis) Eckart and brother-in-law to Emmeric (Betty) Strigens, Alois (Pat) Strigens and Monica (Tim) Matheus. Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Al was born in Kirschberg, Germany and moved to America with his family in his youth. He loved to reminisce with his kids & grandkids telling stories of his childhood adventures in Texas and West Virginia. His family eventually settled in Milwaukee. He first met Liz when, as he told it, "She was just a silly 13-year-old kid". But as the years went by, love blossomed, and Al & Liz were married in the summer of 1962. Al, Liz and their children moved to Menomonee Falls in 1970, and became lifelong residents. Al worked for many years at, and retired from, United Parcel Service-UPS.
Al was a gifted athlete. He spent many years playing soccer with the Milwaukee Sport Club. He enjoyed bowling and loved playing golf. He was also a passionate sports fan and enjoyed cheering for, and sometimes complaining about, the Packers, Brewers and Badgers, as well as World Cup Soccer. You could also often find Al on the sidelines cheering for his grandkids with pride and enthusiasm. Al's other great passion was travel. He spent lots of time with his wife, kids, grandkids and friends along the Florida gulf coast soaking up the sunshine and playing golf. Al traveled to many places in the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as Mexico and Europe. He loved good food, sightseeing and going off the beaten path, and even managed to find a "Finkbeiner Brewery" on one of his European vacations. One of his last trips was a memorable family outing to Pasadena to see the Badgers play in the Rose Bowl.
Al had a zest for life. He lived his life with passion and purpose and stayed true to himself until the end. He was proud of and deeply loved his family. Al will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
His family would like to thank his caregivers at Grace Commons who cared for Al in his last days with kindness, compassion and respect. In leu of flowers a memorial in Al's memory may be made to Grace Commons.
