Agnes "Rutz" Claybon, 79, of Baltimore, MD, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Washington Hospital Center.
Born January 17, 1946, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Rev. William Claybon and the late Mary Bell (Hudgins) Claybon.
Agnes graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1964 and continued her education at Bowie State University. She was employed with Western Electric for 17 years, retiring when the company relocated to Georgia.
A devout Baptist, Agnes worshipped in numerous churches throughout her life. She was a terrific cook and a lover of thrifting. She was also well known for her exceptional caregiving skills.
Agnes is survived by her sister Senator Joanne C. Benson, sister-in-law JoAnn Claybon, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Barbara A. Latney and Dr. Mary Frances Watson, and her brother, John Edward Claybon, Sr. Just one week after her passing, Agnes' sister Betty Claybon Lee joined her in death.
Services will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 am, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, MD.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Douglas Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Boulevard North Hagerstown, MD. The funeral will immediately follow.
A dual interment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dr. Mary F. Claybon Watson Scholarship for Nursing c/o Zion Baptist Church, 61 Bethel St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
