Aimee Hampton Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors - Royal Oak on May 8, 2024.
Aimee Elizabeth Hampton, aged 51, passed away quietly in her Royal Oak home on May 6th, 2024 in the company of her loving family.
Aimee was born to Paul and Lydia Hampton on August 8, 1972 and immediately assumed her role as second-in-command of the Hampton Kids. She is survived by eight siblings - Older brother Matthew (Christina), and younger brothers Christopher (Amy), Mike and Joe. Her four younger sisters are Lydia (Al), Elizabeth (Jim), Michelle (Wallace) and Karon (Andrew). In her early years Aimee was known among the neighborhood gang as a fierce and funny friend, who wasn't afraid to put her big brother in his place. A brush with cancer at age 9 altered her path, but did little to dampen her spirit. As the "Little Big Sister" Aimee was known to everyone's friend groups and respected for everything she overcame. After deftly defeating cancer, she went on to finish high school in Berkley and embarked on her journey through life as a proud 42 year survivor.
Winding her way through the lives of her siblings and parents, Aimee took on a variety of jobs in a variety of places; She worked for a time at a bakery, but once confessed the only part of that job she really loved was "the smells". But she always gravitated back towards helping other cancer survivors and working with kids. Her quiet demeanor and small size made her easy to overlook - until she spoke up and showed off her quick wit and sense of humor (with a hint of sass). She never married or had kids of her own, but she doted over (and occasionally tormented) her nieces and nephews with enthusiasm right to the end of her days.
Aimee was creative as well - one of the things she was best known for were her custom hand-made greeting cards, for whatever occasion struck her fancy. She also loved working with beads, and would regularly surprise someone with a random gift, whatever project she had been working on.
With her success in beating cancer, she became something of a medical celebrity, and had a life long relationship with several doctors and hospitals who tracked her long term progress. Children's Hospital in Detroit would always have a special place in her heart, and she always had a smile or a kind word for the nurses and doctors who helped her on her journey. Gilda's Club of Detroit was the charity she connected with later in life, and Aimee was never shy about helping them with time, money, or enthusiastic support for their mission to uplift and strengthen people impacted by cancer.
Friends and family are invited to the visitation for Aimee on Thursday, May 9th from 4-8pm, with Rosary 6 pm at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blks E. of Woodward), Royal Oak. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 10th,, in-state 9:30 am until time of Mass 10am, at the family parish - National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica - all are welcome to attend. She will be interred at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak at a later date.
