Akia Dewon Hampton

Akia Dewon Hampton, born on a sunny day in Brenham, Texas, on October 2, 1996, left us far too soon on August 18, 2024. Akia, a vibrant and spirited soul, had a way of illuminating the world around him. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Akia embodied this sentiment in every way. His heart was full of compassion and his spirit was as lively as the city of Austin, where he resided.
Akia's radiant personality was a beacon of joy and comfort to those who knew him. Despite not being employed, his life was rich with meaningful relationships and experiences. He was the kind of person who made an impression wherever he went. His laughter was infectious, his compassion was boundless, and his spirit was indomitable. Akia was never married, but his love for his family and friends was all-encompassing. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled. He was a beloved son, brother, and friend, and his memory will be etched in our hearts forever. As Maya Angelou wisely stated, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Akia made us feel loved and cherished.
Akia is survived by his mother, Barbara Mitchell, his step-father Jeffrey Williams, his father, Freddie Hampton Jr, his sister, Shadreka Mitchell, his brothers, Curtis Jr (Jeanine) and Eric Toliver, and his sister-in-law, Jeanine (Curtis) Toliver. He is preceded in death by his brother, Javion Williams. Please join us in celebrating Akia's life at a public visitation on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 10:00 am at King-Tears Mortuary, 1300 East 12th Street, Austin, Texas, 78702. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 11:00 am.
