Alan P. Bartlett, 78, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hibbing, Minnesota on August 26,1947, to Donald and Annabelle Bartlett. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado and his master's in education from Union College. He served in the Army National Guard.
Alan was a science teacher at Shaker Junior High School for thirty-three years where he also was the varsity swim coach and baseball coach. He was dedicated to his students as a teacher and as a coach.
Alan was a US Coast Guard Licensed Captain and operated a day sailing charter business in Mystic, Connecticut. Alan also was an instructor for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the US Navy Sea Cadets. He held a license from the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors and the National State Boating Administration. After retiring from teaching, he was a licensed marine surveyor operating Bartlett Marine Services. He and his wife Joyce were avid sailors for over fifty years, sailing Lake Champlain, Lake Ontario, Long Island Sound and the east coast from Massachusetts to the Florida Keys and the Bahamas
He was a member of the Kayderossas Fish and Game Club and the Saraspa Rod and Gun Club. Alan was a talented craftsman and woodworker, building furniture and boats. He restored a 200 year old farmhouse which became his home for the last fifty-three years.
His family was his greatest joy and he was so proud of his grandchildren William and Sydney. He never missed their baseball games, track meets, volleyball games or theater productions. He was always there to support them and cheer them on.
Alan is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Joyce Bartlett, daughter Emma Riel (Bill), grandchildren William Reichart and Sydney Reichart, siblings Shirley DiRusso (Don), Donna Bartlett, and Ron Bartlett (Marie), and many nieces and nephews.
