Alan Glickman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc. - Rosendale on Jan. 14, 2026.
Alan Glickman, of Hurley, New York, passed away suddenly on January 13, 2026, at HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, New York. He was 71 years old. His passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of the countless people who knew him, relied on him, laughed with him, and loved him.
Born on May 19, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York, Alan was the son of Philip and Selma Glickman. He spent his early childhood in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn before his family moved to Philipsport and then Ellenville, New York, ultimately settling in Kingston in 1970. Alan graduated from Kingston High School with the Class of 1972, beginning a lifelong connection to the community he would serve so selflessly.
Alan was a man of deep compassion, boundless energy, and unwavering commitment to others. He always made time for people and was often the very first to respond when someone needed help. Alan was a friend to all and truly never met a stranger.
His life's work was defined by service and teaching. Alan served as an EMT with Diaz Ambulance, First Senate Ambulance, and Marbletown Rescue. He was deeply passionate about teaching others and instructed BLS, ALS, ACLS, and CPR at the Harriet Weber Learning Center ensuring that countless individuals had the skills and confidence to save lives, just as he did throughout his career. At one time, Alan and his sister Ellen were responsible for training the majority of emergency personnel throughout Ulster County.
Alan began his medical career of over 50 years as a Phlebotomist and Orderly at Benedictine Hospital, putting himself through nursing school while working. Through determination and an unmatched work ethic, he became a Registered Nurse and later served for several years as Nurse Manager of the Benedictine Hospital Emergency Room, leading with both expertise and heart.
Never content to stop learning, Alan worked at Emergency One while putting himself through college to become a Nurse Practitioner, often working several jobs simultaneously. He later joined DeLeo Family Medicine and was most recently working with Medical Associates of the Hudson Valley, while also serving as Medical Director at Ulster County Community College. His career also included working at the Ulster County Jail and Rikers Island Correctional Facility.
Alan believed deeply in the healing power of laughter. True to his nickname, the "Humor Tutor," he attended conferences for the Humor Project and brought the benefits of healing through humor to life for others. His humor was legendary, and his ability to lift spirits was a gift he shared freely.
He was a proud member of the Uptown Cigar Club, where many friendships were built. Alan also cherished his relationships with Native American friends whom he considered family and was deeply honored to be recognized as a friend of the Haudenosaunee Nation.
On September 23, 1989, Alan married the love of his life, Susan DeWitt. Together they built a life rooted in devotion, shared purpose, and unwavering support.
Susan was very proud of the way her husband was able to bring her extended family together. Alan made a seamless connection between all of her cousins, as well as her extended family. The Loizou, Georgiou, Papachristou, Carneys, and McClosky families were united as one special and blessed family.
Alan and his beloved wife found great joy in their annual trips to St. John and the U.S. Virgin Islands, where they built and maintained many long standing friendships that meant a great deal to them both.
Alan was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Selma Glickman, and by his sisters Paula Moskowitz, Eileen Sandler, and Ellen Kirkpatrick.
He is survived by his wife, Susan DeWitt Glickman; his beloved parrot, Skylar; and his cherished dog, Lady Diana.
He is also survived by his sisters Mala Ploennigs; Sharon Crego (Randy); and Susan Ardalan (Faramarz), his nieces (goddaughters) Lori Carpino and Jill Dispensa (Sal), as well as his nieces and nephews Bruce, Gary, and Alan Moskowitz; Bryan Sandler; Kristine Daley (Mark); Michael Crego (Megan); Jennifer ElSawi (Adhem); Faraz Ardalan (Heather); Caitlyn Dispensa; Scout Crego and Samara ElSawi, In-Laws George and Myroulla Georgiou, Evie Carney, Nieces and Nephews Elenie & Xenaki Loizou and children, Dia Georgiou, Tina and Chris Papachristou and children, Andriana and Andrew McCloskey and children. Cousins Kathy Anderson and children, Michael Anderson. Mary and Randy Bader, Dorothy McGuire and children, Paul and Sandi McGuire and children, Jack and Roberta Ham and children. Cousins Victor and MaryAnn DeWitt.
Alan Glickman lived a life of purpose, generosity, humor, and service. His legacy lives on through the lives he saved, the people he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In honoring Alan's memory, those who knew him are encouraged to live as he did: Care for one another and never underestimate the healing power of laughter.

Most sincere condolences to Susie, and Alan´s entire family. We had so many laughs at Crackers so many years ago. Alan was like the energizer bunny throughout his lifetime. I´m so sad for his passing way too soon, as I´m sure thousands of others are too. RIP

I have happy memories of Alan whom I met when I worked in the library at Benedictine hospital. He dropped by the library often. I remember how happy he was when he married Susan. I am so sorry we lost him. My sincere condolences to Susan and family.
