Alan Horey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldfinch Funeral Home - Carolina Forest Chapel - Myrtle Beach on Dec. 10, 2025.
Alan Lester Horey, 76, passed away after a sudden battle with AML on December 7, 2025. Born

in Buffalo NY to Lester and Pauline Horey, both deceased, Alan lived a life full of purpose,

generosity, and joy. Over the years he made homes in Kenmore, NY; Ledyard CT; Groton, CT;

and Myrtle Beach, SC, forming lasting friendships everywhere he went.

Alan proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, an experience that shaped his sense of duty,

patriotism, and integrity. Following his service, he built a distinguished career as an engineer

with Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut, contributing his skill and dedication to work he

deeply valued. Later, as the owner of Professional Financial Services in Groton, he extended his

commitment to helping others build stability and confidence in their futures.

Family was central to Alan's heart. He is survived by his wife, Mickie Zada; his son, Jarad Horey

(Katherine Horey); and his stepson, Ryan Phelan. He leaves behind five beloved

grandchildren-Theresa and Jillian Horey, Alexis, Parker, and Cameron Phelan-who brought

him immense joy and pride. Alan is also survived by his siblings Thomas Horey, David Horey,

and Carolyn Gibb, each of whom shared in the stories, humor, and warmth that made him so

special.

Alan embraced life fully. He was an avid golfer, an enthusiastic boating and fishing companion,

and someone who delighted in simply being outdoors. Known for his sense of humor, quick

smile, and natural ease with people, he truly never met a stranger. His friends and family

remember him as a loyal companion, a warm presence, and a man who lived with a spirit of

enthusiasm and appreciation for every day.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on his birthday, January 11, at his home in Myrtle Beach SC.
