After welcoming their first daughter, Helen, Alan and his family emigrated in 1975 to Montreal, Canada. Where Alan worked for International Paints, a company he stayed with for 30 years. Their second daughter, Susan was born in Montreal and gave Dorothy and Alan two wonderful granddaughters, Jessica and Julia who Alan adored, they were the sunshine of his life! Alan was an avid sports fan and was a big supporter of Newcastle United Football Club, also the Montreal Canadiens ice hockey team. He loved music and art, playing saxophone and clarinet for a number of local "big" bands throughout his youth. After retirement Alan enjoyed gardening and became a Master Gardener Volunteer in Forsyth County, NC enjoying working with fellow MGV's in various projects attached to the program.
