Albert Joseph Bissmeyer III was born on 9/27/1945 and passed on 10/05/2025 on the Feast of St. Faustina of Divine Mercy. He was a loving husband of 58 years to Sandy (Fleming), brother to Roger (Carol) and Dee, father to Al (Gina), Ingrid (Chris), and Eric (deceased 2006), grandfather of 8, and great-grandfather of 1.
He graduated from STX in 1963, UofL in 1967 and was class president, and received his law degree from Fordham Law School in 1971. He was an Executive Vice President of Marketing for Philip Morris, Seven UP, and National City Bank. Additionally, he worked in mediation utilizing his law degree.
He was very active throughout his life with eclectic interests. He volunteered his time working on Handicap Accessibility with his son Eric, for the Archdiocese of Louisville. He was a master gardener and an active Member of the Louisville Ag Club, where he volunteered to be Fredie Farmer at the KY State Fair. He won awards for woodworking and was a member of the Falls Cities Wood Carvers Guild.. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Shelbyville, worked with the Boy Scouts of America, and the Boys Club throughout his life. He was also a member of Leadership Louisville. He was very active in the Republican Party.
He accomplished numerous physical challenges that he set for himself, two of which included running the New York Marathon in his late 30s and biking from Canada to Louisville in his mid-70s.
He enjoyed spending time with his dear friends in the Dairy Queen Group and St X Group, and he traveled extensively with his wife and family. He instilled love of family, God, and country by his actions and the way he lived his life. He also enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing and achieving goals. His motto Do Your Best (DYB), says it all.
Visitation will be on Wednesday October 8th, from 3-8 at Ratterman Funeral Home East (12900 Shelbyville Rd Louisville, KY 40243)
The Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, October 9th, at 12 PM at Church of the Annunciation (105 Main St. Shelbyville, KY 40065)
