Steven Stallings, age 77, passed away on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025.
Born to George and Jane Stallings on August 21st 1948; he was an only child. His father owned a Gulf service station where Steve fondly remembered spending time during his teenage years, working on cars with his friends.
As an adult he pursued a career in education and worked at many schools around the Louisville area as a teacher, a coach, and later as a principal. While principal of Southern High School, he combined his love of cars and his love of education and helped create their automotive technology program - setting a foundation for many students' successful careers.
He married his high school sweetheart Susie and during their 27 years of marriage they raised three children: Staci (David) Yakimovicz, Steven Jr (Tom) Stallings, and Shannon Stewart.
He later married Linda, who also worked at Southern High School. Marrying Linda expanded his family to now include 2 more children. Taylor (Amanda) Cornett and Cassie (Jim) Galford.
They were a powerhouse at Southern with many agreeing the counseling department was actually running things over there- que laughs! All jokes aside, the impact they made together and individually was immeasurable.
In their retirement years they enjoyed traveling and being members of the corvette club- but their favorite part was being loving grandparents to their six grandchildren: Victoria, Olivia, Logan, Sophia, Bella, and Emma.
Later in life Steve reconnected with a long time friend from his youth, Mr. John Renfro. Their favorite way to spend the day together was catching up (talking about the good ole days) over a fried fish sandwich and a sweet tea while enjoying the breeze on a sunny afternoon at Mike Linnigs.
Mr Renfro's friendship was truly a rock for Steve to lean on in his later years. A special thanks to him and his family. May we all be so lucky to have the kind of friend John has been to Steve. His friendship has known no limits and he has gone above and beyond to help him (and us) these last few years.
A special thanks is also due to Mr. Gregory Bell. Greg has been the coordinator for Steve's transplant care team and has also gone above and beyond for Mr Stallings, not just in recent months, but for the past twenty or so years after his heart transplant. His knowledge, compassion, and advocacy have been priceless to both Steve and his family.
We truly appreciate you both from the bottom of our hearts and consider ourselves so fortunate to have had your help.
While we say goodbye, let us take comfort in knowing Steve is now with his beloved wife Linda and he never wanted anything more from his life.
A service will be held on October 17th at Ratterman Brothers East Louisville (12900 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY 40243). We welcome family and friends and anyone whose life was touched by Steve to join us at 1:00, service starting at 2:00, and refreshments to follow.

Linda & John Renfro

October 8, 2025

Steve & John watching UK games were some of The Best Memories at our home for several years. He´d come & stay for weekends and tell us how much he enjoyed The Renfro Resort. He never ask for much tea please. But how he loved to eat. I think Fish , pizza & German Chocolate Cake with ice cream were his favorites. Before John would take him back to his place he ask can I have another piece of cake. Crack me up. When he was at Eastern Star John, David Maupin & Terry Gribbins every Saturday take him Lodge Fish & Leave desert for him to have later. The devotion of a long time friendship gave him peace & most of all Joy. We´ll miss his kind sweet heart & all the fun times he left us in memories. We loved him especially his Buddy Mr John Renfro

Steve was a great guy, I´m grateful I got to know him and spend time eating fish sandwiches and cracking jokes with him and my big cousin, who has been his friend since they were kids. Steve will be missed but the impact he made surely lives on in fond memories. Rest easy Steve.

With love,
Skip Anderson
