Hello to the Bourgeois family from Maine. I am chair of the Wildlife Department at the University of Maine, and want to offer condolences to the family on behalf of the Department and University. Al had an exceptional career as a wildlife biologist and as an alumni of our program we are proud of his legacy.

On a personal note, Al participated in an American woodcock migration research project that I coordinate, and made really important contributions to our work. I had the pleasure of meeting him several times, and always enjoyed our conversations. His love for woodcock and passion for upland bird hunting was obvious. Its clear he lived a rich and full life with a loving family - we should all be so lucky.

Dear Debbie and Family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I had the honor of working with Al and calling him my friend. I have many memories I will cherish always. I have a book at home that has the inscription: "What we are is God's gift to us, what we become is our gift to God". Al's gift to his Creator was one of love for his fellow man, care for God's wonderful creation and always presenting an example of truly walking by faith. When Al arrived in heaven, I am certain he was created with the words "Well done, good and faithful servant." Those of us that had the honor of know this wonderful man were truly blessed.
