Albert George Bricco (April 14, 1936 - August 17, 2024)
Albert "Bert" Bricco passed into his heavenly reward on Saturday, August 17, 2024. During his long life he touched the lives of many people. Called Papa Bert by his grandchildren, he will truly be missed.
Bert's passion was in the kitchen. He is remembered for cooking feasts for family gatherings - especially Easter Dinner, catering wedding receptions and Lenten Fish Frys at the Knights of Columbus Hall, and concessions for festivals at church. He was a long-time member at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Greenville, and lived his life guided by the Catholic faith. He will be remembered for his many years of service. As an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, he and his wife brought the Eucharist to the shut-ins at nursing homes in the Greenville community as well as during the time they lived in Florida. They both volunteered at Open Arms Hospice House in Simpsonville, bringing comfort and homemade birthday cakes to the patients. He served as an officer for many years with Council 1668 / Assembly 1073 of the Knights of Columbus. His life was one dedicated to faith, family and community. Bert always said that his epitaph should read, "I tried." More appropriately it can be said, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Tim 4:7).
His legacy lives on through his children. He is survived by Rachel Bricco, Brian (Angie) Bricco, Paul (Kelly) Bricco, Eric (Nichola) Bricco, and Kitty Smith Bricco, along by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was one of eight children. He is also survived by his sister Linda Briggs of Seffner, Florida.
In addition to his parents Robert and Marie Bricco, he was preceded in death by his first wife Jackie Bricco (1976), his second wife Jo Anne Bricco (2021), his son Timothy Bricco (2008) and a daughter Kathi Evert Walker (2023).
A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church located at 3710 Augusta Road in Greenville, SC at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024. A reception will follow the Mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
