Ret. SFC Albert Conely, 80, of Lillington passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Albert was born to the late Albert and Helen Conely on April 9, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Albert is survived by his loving companion, Mary Lane; children, Albert and wife Michelle Conely, Earl and wife Sharon Turner, Margaret and husband Tim Wood, Michael and wife Barbara Turner, JoAnn and husband Jamie Portilla; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren, and his beloved furbabies.
He was a loving father and a generous man who could be counted on when anyone needed a hand. He loved his family and his furry children, which he often referred to as "his babies." Albert always said, "I have children, no stepchildren." Although Albert had a tough exterior due to his military service, he loved his family and always shared the love in his heart when he could.
Albert's love and dedication to his country spanned more than 22 years. His medals included, but were not limited to, the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star with Device, Bronze Star with Oakleaf cluster, Air Medal, Vietnam Civil Action Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal. After his retirement from the Army, Albert went on to work at the NC Department of Corrections, where he spent the rest of his working career.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Adcock Funeral Home, Spring Lake. A Celebration of Albert's Life will begin at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Adcock Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will immediately follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Liberty.
