Albert "Skip" Crookes, Jr passed away after a short illness, on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at the St. Luke's Campus of MVHS, New Hartford, surrounded by love and peace.
Skip was born on June 16, 1945, in Taunton, MA. He was the son of the late Albert and Virginia Crookes. He graduated in 1964 from Veterans Memorial High School in Warwick, RI. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966 and served in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1971. Skip married Joan Reed in 1968 in Holland Patent. They were married for 49 years, until Mrs. Crookes passing on Feb. 26, 2017. He was a long-time employee (42 years) of Remington Arms, Ilion. Skip was also a long-time member of the Ilion Fish and Game Club and Ilion Elks Lodge. He enjoyed working on cars, especially MG's and VW Beetles. Skip enjoyed numerous adventures with his daughter and granddaughter. He liked going to the firing range, and was delighted to teach his granddaughter Olivia how to shoot. Olivia was the light of his life.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joan, daughter, Kelley, and brother, Donald. Skip is survived by his daughter Kristin Klein and her soulmate Chris Brown of Ilion, his granddaughter, Olivia Klein (who called him "Bampie") and her partner Chayse Schuler of Ilion, his brother David Crookes and his wife Maureen of Manchester, VT, his sister-in-law, Donna Crookes of Attleboro, MA, his beloved niece, nephews, great nieces and great nephew (who called him "Uncle Skittles"), Jennifer Flanagan, who he thought of as a daughter, and his wife's family. Skip is also survived by many special friends, all who he held dear in his heart.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131.
