Albert K. Engel, a devoted patriot, community leader, and entrepreneur, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2023. Born to Albert and Rose Engel in Eveleth, Minn., Albert's life was a testament to dedication, service, and a tireless commitment to bettering the community he cherished.
Albert served his country with honor in the U.S. Armed Forces, contributing three years of his life in the Pacific. After graduating from Sacramento High School in Sacramento, Calif., he pursued higher education, attending Ohio University, San Francisco State College, and the University of San Francisco.
His professional journey was diverse and impactful. Albert started his career as the Assistant Branch Manager of the Van Ness Branch of the Anglo California National Bank (pre-Wells Fargo). Subsequently, he ventured into the culinary world, becoming the proud owner and manager of three restaurants: Glandhand in Sausalito, Farmhand Restaurant in Guernville, and the Sand Dollar Restaurant in Stinson Beach.
Albert's entrepreneurial spirit extended into real estate, where he served as a Broker/Realtor and owner of a Stinson Beach real estate office under Oceanic Realty, starting in 1972. His influence in the business world left an indelible mark on the community he served.
Albert's dedication to community service was nothing short of extraordinary. He played a pivotal role as the first co-coordinator of the Stinson Beach Village Association, showcasing his commitment to fostering a tight-knit and supportive community. His leadership extended to the Stinson Beach Community Center, where he served as a Director, and as an Advisory Board member of the Marin County Flood Control District, reflecting his dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of his neighbors.
In times of crisis, Albert's selflessness shone through. He served in the Stinson Beach Volunteer Fire Department - Ambulance Corps, embodying the spirit of community care during emergencies. His involvement in projects such as Village Green II Park and his role as the Clerk of Session of the Stinson Beach Community Church showcased his commitment to enhancing the quality of life for those around him.
In reflecting on his life, Albert often expressed his desire to participate actively and contribute to the well-being of the Stinson Beach community. His tireless efforts and enduring legacy serve as an inspiration to all who strive to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
Albert's list of accomplishments is extensive. He played a crucial role in establishing a Medical Center Complex for Stinson Beach and contributed significantly to the creation of a Stinson Beach branch of the Marin County Free Library. His dedication to the Village Green II Park project and service as the Clerk of Session of the Stinson Beach Community Church exemplify his commitment to community development.
Albert K. Engel is survived by his two nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Albert's legacy will endure through the positive impact he had on the Stinson Beach community, leaving behind a vibrant and thriving testament to a life well-lived.
