Albert Lenz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jakubs & Son Funeral Home on Sep. 2, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Memorial Mass for Albert Joseph Lenz, Jr., age 72, will be 10:30 am, Friday, September 12, 2025, at St. Jerome Parish, 15000 Lakeshore Blvd, Cleveland, where family will receive friends from 9:30 until time of mass. Inurnment will be in All Souls Cemetery.

Albert was born on September 13, 1952, in Cleveland to Albert Joseph and Margaret Mary (nee Levy) Lenz, Sr. (both deceased) and he passed away on August 25, 2025.

Al was a visionary artist who transformed molten glass into breathtaking sculptures, capturing light and emotion in every shimmering curve. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1975 and a master's degree from West Virginia University in 1979. His artistic creativity and talents extended beyond glass and ceramics to include woodworking, crafts, drawing, watercolor, painting, and printmaking. As a self-made woodworker, Al branded himself a "factotum", a do-everything hard worker of diverse skill and innovation who could adapt to any job. Al had a dry humor, an intellectual curiosity, and an interest in spirituality which he enjoyed exploring through books, music, and other media. His deep connection to the outdoors took him to West Virginia and Alaska before returning to Ohio, and his love for nature and gentle spirit are often reflected in his art. Albert showed a quiet and steadfast devotion to his parents and loved ones, and put great care into preparing desserts for special occasions: traditional strudel, holiday pies, the Easter lamb cake, and gluten-free bakes.

Albert is the beloved brother of Margaret Anne Frank (James, Sr. deceased), Francis Michael Lenz (Sheryl deceased), Mary Agnes O'Brien (Thomas deceased), Helen Therese Kelbach (Lawrence), and Martha Jeanne Allen (Robert); proud uncle of many, proud great-uncle, caring friend, and kind neighbor.
