Albert "Al" Malachowski

Age 84, born August 26th, 1941 in Northeast Minneapolis, died peacefully in his home on September 9th, 2025.

Al graduated from DeLaSalle High School in 1959. After graduation he had a number of odd jobs including delivering mail from Minneapolis to Chicago via the railroad. He was drafted into the Army and was stationed overseas. After discharge he came back to MN and attended Dunwoody Institute.

Al had a love of cars especially the 53/54 Buick Skylarks. He enjoyed restoring old cars...he never finished one but did have lots of parts so he could!! He belonged to the Buick Club and attended many swap meets, car shows and parts sales, which resulted in many lifelong friends and acquaintances. Along with cars, Al also enjoyed playing the accordion and could often be heard in the basement performing a rousing Polka before ending it with a "HEY!".

Cruising Minneapolis one day in his 1960 Chevy convertible, he honked at a girl standing at a corner and asked if she wanted a ride. Jean and Al were married on May 8th, 1970. Al owned a restaurant/bar in Minneapolis before starting his career as a project manager in construction. He designed and built the home in Plymouth where he lived until he passed.

Al was extremely proud of his granddaughters Sydney and Natalie and enjoyed watching them grow up and start the next chapter in their lives.

In 2011, his youngest daughter, Jen, donated one of her kidneys to Al. This gift gave him 14 years of life that enabled him to see his granddaughters grow up, spend quality time with his family and be the primary caregiver for his beloved wife while she battled cancer before passing in 2021.

Al was preceded in death by his wife Jean; parents, Albert & Mary Malachowski; sisters, Mary Ann Malachowski and Patricia Kopp; brother, David Malachowski and son-in-law Greg Osterdyk. Survived by his loving family - daughters, Annemarie (Dave) Rein, Lori Osterdyk (Tim McShane), Jen (Jeff) Austin; granddaughters, Sydney Osterdyk and Natalie Rein.

Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 19, 2025 with visitation 1 hour prior at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 630 Wayzata Blvd. E. Wayzata. A private burial will be held at Fort Snelling.
