Fort Smith, ARAlbert Jay Rogers, a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, in
Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was 74 years old.
Albert was born in
Fort Smith, Arkansas on June 22, 1950, to Von Dell Rogers and Albert Julian Rogers, both of whom preceded him in death. He was especially close to his parents and maintained a deep bond with them, visiting them almost every day throughout their lives.
He was a devoted husband to Doris Rogers for nearly 40 years, and a proud father to Amy, Sara, John, Joey, and Michelle. Albert's love and care extended to his many grandchildren: Landon, Carrington, Dillon, Kendall, Bella, Gabriel, Jet, Rose, Quana, Sam, Jimmy Cash, Fallon, River, Roman, London, and Holland.
Albert is survived by his cousin, Mrs. Margaret Bryant, and a host of family and friends who will forever remember him for his sense of humor, integrity, and work ethic.
A proud Eagle Scout, Albert excelled both academically and athletically. He graduated from Van Buren High School in 1968. He was a basketball player for Arkansas Tech University and graduated with a 4.0 GPA while working full time. Albert was also a veteran of the 188th Wing of the Arkansas Air National Guard, proudly serving his country. He was a member of the equalization board for over 10 years.
Albert's passion for construction was inspired by his father and uncle, who taught him the craft of building homes in the River Valley. Over the course of 50 years, Albert became a master cabinet maker, known for his skill, honesty, and unwavering commitment to doing things the right way. His work was always sought after, and his reputation for excellence meant he never needed to advertise-clients came to him by referral alone. Later in life he loved working many jobs with his son Joey Myers.
In his younger years, Albert loved spending time at the horse races with his parents and Uncle Junior, a pastime he carried with him throughout his life. He was also an avid fan of country music, particularly the songs of Tammy Wynette, Randy Travis, and Ronnie Milsap.
One of Albert's proudest achievements was winning the Cedars Club Championship in 1988, a testament to his love of golf and the camaraderie he shared with his best friend Andy Neal, sons John and Joey, and his many golf buddies at Cedars.
Albert's stories, whether about playing golf, high school basketball, memorable horse races, or winning the super trifecta, will forever be treasured by those who knew him. He lived a full life-one rich in family, friendship, faith, and the simple pleasures that brought him joy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at RiverGlenn in Fort Smith Arkansas this Thursday, January 23rd at 10:00 am.
