Albert Preston Yates, 79, a long time resident of Sweet Home passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. He was born to Levi and Nila (Jellison) Yates in Albany, Oregon.
Albert was truly loved by many and had a heart of gold. The type of man that would give a stranger the shirt off his back or his last dollar. He was a devout Christian, who had a passion for sharing his love for Jesus and attending church regularly. He also enjoyed shopping at second hand stores, collecting knives, pocket watches, making lamps for his loved ones. He liked cooking and dancing every chance he would get. Sweet Home residents may remember him as the guy who use to ride his scooter around town, or for his commitment to doing everything for his wife, from walking down to Dutch Bros to get her coffee, or getting Sunday breakfast at the Vets Club to walking across the highway to Thriftway to get essentials.
He is survived by his wife Selma (Bliege) Yates; brother Ken Yates, sister Vicky Wiley; four step children; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren; among numerous other family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Melissa Yates; brother Stanley Yates.
The family is holding a small private celebration for Albert. Donations can be made to Selma Yates, Wiley Creek Senior Living, 5050 Mountain Fir, Sweet Home, Oregon 97386. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. www.sweethomefuneral.com.

Albert will be greatly missed. He was good at telling family stories and helped keep them alive in our memories. He made lamps and I am a proud owner of one. In his later years he started preaching and bringing people to the Lord. Fly high Albert and hug your mom and All our other family that preceded you.

I remember Albert from my childhood. He was probably 12 to 13 years my elder, but he would drive down to his Grandma and Grandpa's with his mom, bringing his bike with him, and he'd ride it all around with my oldest brother, who was younger than he was, but not by much, all this while his mom would visit!! She was a kind lady, and was also friends with my parents, as they/we all went to the same church! Albert was always kind to me, even though I was just a pesky little kid to him! I can remember him and his kindness from as far back as I can remember! I'm going to miss Albert, as he was almost always at the Jellison Reunions as far back as memory will allow!! I didn't make it every year myself, then I got myself married into the same family!!
